A-EON Technology Ltd is pleased to announce a new version of PPaint 7.3c for Classic OS3 and OS4.

New users: you can purchase Personal Paint download from the official PPaint.com website or AMIStore App Store. The boxed edition can be purchased directly from Amiga Kit Amiga Store.

Existing users: The update is free download for registered users of version 7.3 from Updater tool or Amisphere.com website.

Changes for this new version against 7.3b:

Feature additions:

* Add polygon mode to grab brush tool.

* Update Itialian translation (contributed Luca Longone)

Bug fixes:

* Fix long filename support.

* Fix buffer overflows in brush scaling.

* Fix buffer overflows in brush shearing.

* Extend internal brush structure to include shear status values so that when shearing brush twice in a row is starts from the current sheared state and not the original brush state.

* Fix incorrect calculation of visible files in builtin requester resulting in
an occasional corrupt looking filename at end of file list.
(personal_req.library 1.11)

* Fix (work around) extra spacing in thin gadget mode that left areas of uncleared disabled hatching when certain gadgets were enabled (button and tickbox). personal_req.library 1.12

* Fix single pixel brush "sticking" in MATTE mode after using a custom brush.

* Fix positioning of flood / fill pointer hot spot.

We would like to thank Amiga Developer team member, Andy Broad for his hard work on this update. We would also like to thank our beta testers for their valuable feedback.

I was following the PPaint tradtion of using letters for minor updates.

I'd go for valid AmigaOS version numbers instead of sticking to some arcane tradition

People may have expected a bit more from a 7.4 release

Well it's just a revision, so one should stay realistic and not expect miracles. Especially if the update is free.

at the moment the project is in the "red" financially and if there are more sales to make it viable then the money will be re-invested to keep development rolling on.

If you need more sales then why there are only OS4 and 68k classic versions available?

AFAIK the 68K version should run fine on MorphOS.

As for native ports to MorphOS and AROS, there probably wasn't enough interest to justify the costs involved.

Yes, people would buy more if there was more content. Not only programms, but allso data like, backgrounds, wallpapers, mod files, quality soundsamples, animations, tutorials, pictures, fontpacks imho.

Installation Utility 53.18 is a beta component as far asI can tell, (certainly the FE: version is 53.12 )
53.18 came with FE Update1 in december 2016 (so it is not only beta). The C:Python released in that same update was 53.37.

Best regards,

Niels

@Broadblues
>is the version of SOBJS:libpython25.so also 53.37?, they must match.

That one was 53.35, i just copied the file from FE-update1 and used the Installation Utility 53.18, no problems anymore. Thank you!

On the site the download link is coming up as £16.31but the boxed CD is only $14.99.

Is that right? I'd have expected the download to be cheaper than the CD.

Maybe. But I wouldn't buy it. I don't like the performance cost when downgrading from native to emulated, besides I already own one 68k Personal Paint (version 7.1).

If youre worried about performance you should buy an vampire accellerator and get the best performance.

The amount of software for ppc is very limited and now when 68k is the fastest again you will se very little software for ppc as there is no market there.

@ monstercoder

Albeit I like the Vampire project I wouldn't step back from a G4 or G5 system to Vampire. These are two different performance levels.
Probably Trance on a G4 is still way faster than Vampire. About as 100 times the speed of a 040/25 on a G4/1667. Still, native ppc code is more than 5 times as fast as Trance.

Hence, Vampire is cool to max out the 68k line, but no alternative to MorphOS.

The current 68K reimplementations are slower than NG solutions, and more limited in many ways. While for a Classic Amiga enthusiast solutions such as the Vampire make a fine and welcome choice, they offer very little to people used to NG systems.

Performance speed is not the only thing needed to close the gap between Classic and NG; I think people should stop deluding themselves (and misleading others) in this regard.

I guess 7.3c is fine just wanted to know if there was somekind set goal or requirement you aimed to reach to get it be called 7.4

Its a shame the project in the red. I hope u guys do make the money back on it at somepoint. Thanks for your efforts

There sure will be no market if I will buy a 68k program to run it on MorphOS. The devs will think: "why make MorphOS native version, instead let's force MorphOS users to buy 68k executable". Is it really so hard to build MorphOS version when there's OS4 version ready? If the dev doesn't have a machine to test then I can send him one (with registered MorphOS) free of charge.

You crack me up, bro. Fire up LightWave 3.5 on your Vampire board and run Jubimark, then check your results versus the ones reported here:

and let's see how well Vampire (native, 68k!) LightWave compares to my result (emulated!) on a G5.

Besides - if I wanted the best performance with 68k software, I'd go for emulation on x86, not Vampire.

Those results are very outdated and while your old mac will just get older and older the vampire gets better every day.
That morphos ship has sailed anyway and it sank.

Go on bro. Prove me wrong that your brand new Vampire is faster than emulated 68k on a 15 year old G5.

@thread: What about my offer of hardware donation for Andy? Or anyone else that prepares MorphOS native version of PPaint 7.3?

Maybe 20 000 Euro would be enough? Thats how much stefkos asked for Iris (MOS) port for AOS4

First of all - That would be strange, as stefkos has got no access to Iris source code (it's Jaca's project).

Next thing - last time I checked Personal Paint was a commercial product. I'd find it hillarious if someone (be it you or Amiga Kit) asked me to pay upfront for it. Besides, I guess the price you mentioned is a bit steep too - I don't think the program would need a major rewrite to work on MorphOS.

And the last thing - someone wrote in this thread that the program isn't really selling well (not enough to justify further development). Did you buy a copy? Or a dozen? I would it if there was a native MorphOS version. Heck, if finding compatible hardware is a problem - I have no trouble donating it. But if it's so impossibly hard to compile then - well, I can still use version 7.1. Or maybe it's better to get used to GrafX? Good luck waiting for PPaint 7.4.

I recently bought PPaint and installed in on my AmigaOS 4.1 FE system on Winuae.
Unfortunately it does not work, it says 'I/O libraries not found'.
I reinstalled it to a different location but get the same error :(

Anyne know how to fix this?
