I installed UT for the first time yesterday and the game is much better than I expected.

I didn't like the original Unreal very much compared to the Quake series, so I never bothered to check out this game. But seeing this news topic here made me call up a friend and borrow his copy of UT. Playing UT with fellow team members and AW regulars is top! Hope to see many of you tonight there too.

@DaveP

I don't know about advice as such but I used to play UT online quite a bit. I suppose I got used to the way people move around.

Newer players tend to run in straight lines which makes it easier to kill them.

Best tip I can give is to move around, jumping. don't run in straight lines if you can help it.

Ah, I wondered why you were moving from left to right like some drunk and hopping around like a madman.

That's how I got started on UT. I was playing Serious Sam alot online and telling some co-workers about it. One of them suggested that I would probably like UT, and I thought I probably wouldn't like it. He loaned me his copy and I took it home and installed it. A month later I was still cranking up UT every chance I got, so I went out and picked up a copy of UT Game of the Year Edition. If I'm going to play it, I'll buy it.

A fellow co-worker accuses me of jumping around like a jack rabbit. You can also avoid explosions and such by doing double taps in the direction you want to move, which will make you jump/flip in that direction.

I'll be on here tonight... hope to see some of you! But with the time difference from UK to Eastern US, you may already be gone by then... Anyway, I'm glad to have a new server to play on!

Well, it was a very nice game.

But i'm having some problems connecting to the server now, it says (after i downloaded a ####load of stuff) "Package 'de' version mismatch"

So DaveyD: what packages have you installed since the last game?

From DNA Games:

If you get an error, "package de version mismatch" the do the following: go into your unreal tournament\system directory and delete the de.int and de.u files. reconnect to the server and you'll automatically download the version that the server is using. its only 70K.

Yeah, I had the same problem. Deleted the "de" files from UT\System folder and it works fine.

Really, cause I kicked his butt quite easily. And all of the other bots were named with numbers like 011101, 1110100, etc and were very advanced.

Anywho, I joined again today during lunch from work... had a good first game. Then every game from there out I lagged so bad I got my butt kicked. I have no idea what changed. I didn't lag the other day, or for the first game. The other players were not animating and appeared from nowhere to kill me. The real kicker is that I had the best ping on the server and nobody else was lagging.

Ahemm... My ISP's cache STILL hasn't updated and so I seem not to be able to connect here at home to try again on my machine with a cable connection. (still having to use a proxy server from the list to connect here on Amigaworld).... Time Warner Road Runner sucks. That cache should have expired days ago, but I still get the message that my ISP's cache hasn't updated. Guess I'll go play on some of my regular servers.

Thank you , i must admit that i had my best UT day in years, my aim was close to perfect (wich DaveyD realized when camping ). and the ping was very nice.

But to tell you the truth, We did play this map just about 1 hour before, so i had a good look at it before you came along. I knew it pretty well by that time.

It was pretty funny fragging Bill Buck though , cya all in another game.
