Another observation:
I have been reading gary_c. posts over the years at various Amiga sites and have recently noticed a decided shift here. This topic has made me realize he has become an MOS apologist as opposed to the "neutral" observer/comentator I thought he was attempting to portray.

This not bad in and of it's self, we all should be able to pick our OS of choice of course. But the "neutral observer" isn't working, at least for me.

What has pegasos/morphos to do with Amiga anyways? Even genesi say that pegasos/morphos was not targetted at the amga community and has really nothing to do with Amiga.

Sorry to say it, but from my impression lately, a.org seems to actually be more on the genesi side, though it is supposed to be an Amiga site. You post something negative about morphos/genesi, then you are a big troll... If you post something positive about amiga/amigaOS, then you are ignorant person who blindly follows Bill McEwen...

And this is not a server btw, it is a desktop pc running mandrake 8.x that is being used for hours every day. It was tuerned on 40 days ago, when i got back from vecation, did not take the chance to leave puters running while being gone for 14 days.

Exact same pc keept crashing on WinXP, could usually one do 2-3 days between reboots.

I've never "attempted to portray" myself as anything other than a more-or-less reasonable guy. I hope it's been clear that I like to talk about ideas and events, etc. with the main concern being fairness and coherent thinking. Of course I've had opinions on things, just like everyone else, but not to the point of being a stubborn advocate who can't accept another point of view.

As it happens, I've become an enthusiast of Genesi and Pegasos/MorphOS because the company has brought out products that are nice additions to the alternative computing space; the people involved with Genesi have been -- contrary to the impression some have -- very nice to deal with. Since Genesi and the Phoenix consortium have gotten together on a number of initiatives, I've had a chance to get to know (at least a little) quite a few of the people involved with the platform, and it's been a lot of fun and interesting. Plus, Genesi is openly supporting other OSs on the Pegasos, like OpenBeOS, and this openness is very attractive to me in contrast to the closed-system impression I get from the other side.

That hasn't made me an "apologist," who systematically defends them no matter what. I readily admit the shortcomings of these products and the company. Nobody's perfect and no product is perfect, but I appreciate the energy, bright minds, resources and so on that Genesi has brought into this, and like to help out where I can.

I don't think there's any point in getting negative about the other alternatives here. Needless to say, AmigaOS/AmigaOne are a popular option among many people. The difference in my case has mainly been the approach Genesi has had in working with the Phoenix group, in contrast to the Amiga, Inc. approach which, coming when the new Amiga, Inc. was fresh, funded and rather full of itself, seemed to emphasize a one-way flow of all things toward Amiga, which of course was not in our interest or that of our members.

As far as the root technologies of the two projects is concerned, there are merits both ways. And there are a lot of good people involved in both. But Genesi has been generous where Amiga was uncooperative and self-centered. This has just been my experience as part of Phoenix; other people have their own reasons for feeling as they do and I respect that.

I don't think you'll ever see me post some new news item here blowing the trumpet for Genesi or bring them up in a thread out of context; what I will do is speak up when somebody writes something that's insulting or (I feel) wrong factually about them, as in fact I hope would be my leaning in general.

I don't think I've ever tried to be just a neutral observer, but what I've tried is to be even-handed in hearing ideas. I mean the fun of these forums for me is, for one thing, debating ideas on their merits. Of course these things take place in a context, and on certain questions I'll reflect the place I'm at within that context.
