Hey there

I wasn't even aware this had been an issue. Talk about having nothing better to talk about.

I called Bill on Thursday as usual for our daily chat and mentioned that the site seemed to be down. He said that it was probably because we were moving providers, something that had been planned for sometime.

A bit later I has to tell Amigaworld that I might be late with my Q&A for that week because I was going to my brother-in-law's wedding, and I explained that is any mischief makers complained that the site was down and we were bankrupt it was because we were moving providers.

When I got back Ray had sent me an email saying that I was wrong and that we hadn't started doing that yet.

Quite how this becomes 'big news' just shows how people out there are prepared to pick out anything as an excuse to beat us over the head. Guess what, I've got a green shirt on.... and its with blue pants!!!

Aaargghhh!!!! Burn him Burn Him.

Absolutely pathetic.

For all those here claiming to want just the truth, why don't you simply send me an email and ask me, instead of conjecturing on public boards?

Xcuse me;) My cristal ball to me lies;)

Now to come back to Amiga money difficulties, well I have had worked for a compaagny that payed me the first months, no the second, the third yes, then I touched some "monkey money", don't know how to tell this (this were bill, nbot declared to the fiscality)
then...nothing.

This job was boring me, I wasn't well payed, but I worked in aither cases 4 months non payed!
(and naver have they been payed). I have had enormous difficuties due to this situation.

If Amiga members aren't payed this isn't really bad news, if you think that you have income revenue from another activity.

We never thiought about how many time these guys don't have a revenue, and for shure this was a long time ago.

So to conclude, everyone know this just because some personns have spread documents that are secret on the internet (lawsuits documents, the guys who share these documents must have something behind the head). But who tells us that this situation is new? If this situation is here since, saying 1 year, this isn't bad news!

Why? Just because it means that those guys are happy to do so, have found another job to complete revenues, but they still are here, still working doing things and so on....On this way a compagny can live a really long time if no one is payed, but everyone is happy to be here. No offices, no taxes, nothing really costing!

Well, at all this situation is good for those guys, many statups closed they doors, but by proceding in an intelligent way, they managed to still be here.

I don't think we need to make excuses for the questions that get asked, or the answers that Fleecy gives.

I also would find it awkward to comment on site moderation policy on the public forums any more than I already have done so.

Of course you are right that there is no such need. IMO both the question and answer were spot on and one of the most serious issues facing the Amiga market (and related markets) of today. This is IMO scaring many potential users away from the Amiga market.

I think that this thread has got to us all!

What we have to remember is why we all post to this site, because its friendly, and mainly non-confrontational!

So if we all just relax for a bit and then re-read the comments I'm sure we'll all come back with a fresher perspective.

@Entropy

I agree with you. I've been trying to get people to stop having these kinds of discussions here before. But sadly it seems this is the way this site will go, like so many before it. Same old tiresome arguments being dragged around again and again and again. With only difference being the tone it's being discussed, but in the end it's just the same old tiresome discussions.

Just to make that clear: It was not my intention to discuss Amiga Inc. and I certainly didn't sling mud into their direction. I was just listing examples for bad news about Amiga Inc. that are not "completely made up FUD spread by some competitor" - it's not my fault that some of you guys get a heart attack if somebody quotes a federal court document.

I was initially trying to discuss this site's attitude towards Amiga Inc. (which is unhealthy IMHO). It's now obvious to me that this was a stupid idea - I shouldn't have brought the issue up.

However, the speed at which some of you are willing to get personal and label somebody as a troll is quite impressive. It'll probably be quite a while until I get labeled a blue troll again - I think I'm going to print this page and frame it.

I am sorry to see so many heated reactions becasue of my question. I did not want to point to specific people to NOT cause this much trouble.

I have to pity the moderators here with their difficult task. Only one or two persons are needed to create havoc on amigaworld too. And how to respond? Come up counter argument and try to reason with them meaning the some old discussions return or tell them to behave according amigaworlds no-flaming policy and be accused of censorship and worshipping at other websites.

I want to thank Fleecy for stating his views and I agree it was pathetic to make such an issue out of something that stupid and meaningless.

All this started simply by a false accusation aimed at Fleecy, be it intentional or not.I successfully, and logically refuted that accusation so those that have to have a chip at him, or Amiga Inc had to go back and dig up the same old stuff again.
At least Amiga Inc, has had the guts to face up and admit to at least some of the things it has done wrong, unlike many of the idividuals that inhabit these forums.
If this happened a bit more often I am sure we would have a much more enjoyable and vibrant community across the baord, not just on this site.

@Thread

I'm open to suggestions to table for the site team to consider on how to handle the interminable repeat of the same-old-same old in future such that it doesn't lose our clientele but at the same time allowing a level of responsible free speech on issues that allow retrospection.

Hey - it's just like ann.lu! *sigh*

@DaveP (and everyone else, I suppose! )

Remember the ClickBoom forums?
I haven't been there in a (very) long time, but I can recall that it was possible to "vote" on each post, whether it was a good post or bad.

If a post received a certain number of "bad" votes, then skulls were displayed by the post in the threadlist. Accumulate three skulls, and the post is moderated/removed.

Could we implement something like that?

The post votes could be recorded for each user profile, too (perhaps) such that if someone consistently gets "bad" votes, then their posting rights could be revoked, or something.

Any thoughts?

While it is boring to read the same old arguments over and over again I don't really think it's a problem on this site. Amigaworld.net is working well at the moment in my view, leave it alone and lock the occasional thread if necassary.

Or just get one of the Bodies to send the thread off at a tangent (and increase their post count at the same time)

@DaveP

Why not have a vote to see if people still want Peg/A1 Genesi/Amiga Inc discussions allowed.

If the concensus is that they shouldn't be, then any threads about them could be closed.

Obviously it would have to be pointed out to other sites (Ann,A.org etc) that this ban is for both factions and is not biased..

@DaveP

A range of good and/or bad suggestions that can be discussed by the site team:

Suggestion 1:

1 . Don't allow it in news item comments. Ie, ask people to go to the forums if it things start to go out of order while flatly removing any post not adhering to the request to take it into the forums without further comment (even if the posters tries to walk on the edge about it).

2. Set any forum thread starting to run off to not show up on the most discussed topics list on the main page.

Suggestion 2:

1. Don't allow it in either news item comments nor public forums.

2. Create a forum category with forums that does not show up on the most discussed on the main page where people are directed when they start to go out of line. Flatly removing any post not adhering to the request to take it into the special forums without further comment.

Suggestion 3:

Ask yourselves what's more important, to keep the site calm or what people on other forums might think of it. And then act on that.

Suggestion 4:

Define a site policy that clearly says what topics should be avoided since people obviously can't discuss them without going offensive/defensive about it.

Topics such as:

- Bashing Pegasos/MorphOS/Genesi.
- Bashing AmigaInc, Eyetech, Hyperion.
- PegMos vs Amiga and v.v.
- I said, no you said, no I said, you said, he said, we didn't say. <repeat>
- General flaming.

Suggestion 5:

Add a post rating system where moderators can rate down comments/threads so that they don't show up unless the user sets a threshold value low enough for them to show up.

Suggestion 6:

Make a poll with comments where people can have their say about which direction this site's moderation policy should take.

Hmm, that's just a few from the top of my head, hopefully they can be some sort of base for discussion.

/Björn

@Chunder

The problem with allowing other users to vote is that it usually just shoots off into penalism rather than forming some kind of useful moderation. People gathering up to get some other users posts downgraded just because they don't like him/her and so on.

The only impartial way to do it is to let the moderators do the rating, since their obligation to be able to continue as moderators would be to uphold the site policy and not some personal agenda.

And if any moderator is out of line then the other site maintainers can kick him/her out of the rating system. Something that would be near impossible to do with everyone able to rate since they would have the possibility to do it for totally different reasons than maintaining site policy.
