RunInUAE r7 released (just double-click to run inside UAE!)
Date 16-Aug-2012 20:39:07 Topic: software OS4
| RunInUAE is the easiest & most fool-proof way to run Classic (68k) Amiga games & demos on AmigaOS4 (and comes with OS4 since Update 4).
This is a major new release of RunInUAE: * Works much better with Radeon HD cards (typically on Sam460 & X1000). * Now MUCH easier to understand & use, especially when configuring games. * E-UAE can now be run in windowed mode. * Improved compatibility, plus many bug fixes. * and more!
You can download it from here: It comes as part of AmigaOS4.1 Update 5, and it is recommended that you install it as part of Update 5 for best results. But you can also get it from here: RunInUAE.lha
Details of the changes: * For RadeonHD cards (e.g. as used by the X1000) it now defaults to 640x480, and no-longer uses frame skipping for 640x480. Also it doesn't add problematic 320x256/etc screenmodes, and (offers to) remove any previously added.
* Per-game settings are now MUCH easier to understand & use, thanks to heavily reworking the menus & changing the main window's behaviour. * E-UAE can now be run in windowed mode (rather than full-screen). * Added menu option to use E-UAE-amigfx's built-in floppy drive noise emulation ((and also fixed the disabling of floppy drive noises not working!)) * Added menu option for starting RunInUAE hidden ((so users don't need to fiddle with the CX_POPUP tooltype)).
* E-UAE's own file requester for game disks (Ctrl-Alt-F1/etc) now shows the current ADF folder. * Added Libs & Fonts work-around for games that have not been properly installed to Workbench3.1 ((e.g. some GRAC-based games)). * Updated WHDLoad to v17.0, for better compatibility with recent WHDLoad slaves.
* Fixed WHDLoad games launched from the Shell not working, such as iGame does. So iGame works again! * The SaveGames disk is no-longer missing when you create a per-game config file for HD installed games. * Fixed 68k scripts with spaces in their name not working. * Fixed HD games with per-game settings not starting correctly (or at all), if WB3.1's location was changed during installation. * Setting menu items to "default" no-longer causes a crash. * Ticked menu items no-longer sometimes get the wrong tick state after use, and it was ignoring all but the last menu selection.
* The UNinstaller now asks about deleting your Workbench3.1 & E-UAE folders. * Worked-around the installer & UNinstaller scripts not working when people don't use UnArc ((and instead use a badly configured LhA)).
* Added the "Debug_Backup" program, to help me debug any problems people have. * Executable sizes have been reduced by 60-120KB. * Various other small changes - see the {History} chapter for details.
What is RunInUAE? RunInUAE is intended to make it incredibly easy to run old Amiga games on AmigaOS4, and it comes with an easy installer, so that you can:
* Run almost any HD installed 68k game (or program) inside E-UAE, by simply double-clicking on it! Including WHDLoad & JOTD JST installed games.
* Run ADF & DMS games by double-clicking them. (Needs a little bit of manual set-up if you don't have at least AmigaOS4.1 Update 4.) Otherwise just drag & drop them onto RunInUAE's icon in AmiDock or it's AppIcon.
* Run CD32 & CDTV games from real or virtual CDs. (Compatibility is not great.)
* The installer can set-up E-UAE with full-speed Sam-optimised settings. But it can also use your existing E-UAE settings if you want.
* The installer will get the necessary Kickstart ROMs from AmigaOS4.1 Update 4 (if you are using it), or otherwise it can copy them off an Amiga Forever CD.
* You do *not* need to set-up any assignments, nor create or edit any cryptic scripts or config files, for it to work! (Unlike alternative solutions.)
* You do not need RunInUAE running in the background, *unless* you want to play HD installed 68k games that do *not* use WHDLoad.
