A simple question , i have installed the EIDE interface on my amiga 1200 ( EIDE interface is a buffered interface from Elbox ) and everything is ok, from the EIDE 99 Prefs program, i have seen that the best PIO mode for my hd and dvd-rom is PIO 4 and actually it is set to PIO 0. Is there a way ( maybe a program ) to change these settings and put them to PIO 4 ?

Simple answer, no.

The 4xEIDE adapter is just a simple buffer/splitter
For more than PIO 0 you need a PowerFlyer or IDEFix-Express

True, the EIDE'99 hardware doesn't actually give you a new interface, it just buffers and doubles up the old one, so you don't get any more capability as far as the interface speed or protocol is concerned. The other two devices that Doobrey mentioned do give a brand new interface which is capable of using newer, faster transfer methods, but are much more complicated (and expensive) devices as a result.

Another question please

Until today i have always used two ide device on the EIDE99Buffered Interface. Today i try to use another dvd-rom on the secondary 3.5" port and the dvd-rom isn't show on the wb..

I have an hd set as master and a dvd-rw set as slave on the primary port. I added this dvd-rom on the secondary port as master, is it right ? ( i think it is right ).

If i run Eide99Prefs program in sys:prefs i can see all the device, so i guess that the jumpers are set up correctly. i have also added in devs/dosdrivers another cd icon and in the tooltype i added the two lines to set up the dvd-rom :

CD_DEVICE=scsi.device
CD_UNIT=2

am i missing something ? should i add some line in the user/startup-sequence ??

I have tried another dvd-rom but still no luck.. is my eide interface broken ??

@nubechecorre

If the device is showing up in the prefs application, I doubt the interface is broken. My guess is that there's an incorrect version of scsi.device installed. The original OS version doesn't work with the secondary port - it either needs to be patched by the EIDE'99 software which should be in your Startup-Sequence, or replaced by another driver, for example atapi.device. I don't know how the EIDE'99 patch works with different versions of scsi.device, it could well be incompatible with some versions...

@Daedalus

So i should try to use atapi.device instead of scsi.device ?

@nubechecorre

Possibly the easiest route, though it's from the IDE-Fix97 package which you need to register to stop pop-up requesters every so often...

This should be DEVICE and UNIT, without CD_ in front of it.

Bye,
Thomas
