Yes, I would think so too. Seem the draw method cuts multitasking when drawing the page (just like MultiView has always done since OS3.0 and also cutting music) but it draws too slow and therefore keeps the multitasking off too much time preventing the player to refill the next buffer and play, and I get a gap until I stop scrolling.
|
Here is my graphics driver settings:
BOARDTYPE=Radeon CMPLENGTH=6 (BORDERBLANK=Yes) (BIGSPRITE=Yes) (SOFTSPRITE=Yes) IGNOREMASK=Yes (DISPLAYCHAIN=Yes) FAKENATIVEMODES=No VSYNCMIN=60 VSYNCMAX=75 HSYNCMIN=31500 HSYNCMAX=57000 MODE=640x480@75 MODE=800x600@75 MODE=1024x768@70 SETTINGSFILE=SYS:Devs/Picasso96Settings
See no interrupts are used. Then, no matter what I choose for Page Render in AmiPDF general settings, I don't get any pauses in music play. I tested AmigaAMP with both mpega.library and WarpUp engine, and TuneNet. I kept scrolling really fast the AmiPDF text with holding down the mouse (PS2) botton. I get no pauses whatsoever.
Try this.

I think the INTERRUPT=YES is ON by default. You'll have to set it to INTERRUPT=NO to try without interrupts. But that is not recommended. Performance will suffer.
The "hold down left mouse while dragging the scroll bar up'n'down really fast pausing sound playback" bug was confirmed for prerelease 3 and mostly noticed while using AmiPDF that came with prerelease 3. This bug was only happening on G3 systems as Altivec made AmiPDF that much faster so the problem probably became invisible with G4 systems. It was fixed by the author though if I recall correctly. #6 can you assist with a link
I'll have to test when I get home but I think that was one of the first things I tested and noted was fixed for prerelease 4. Maybe it was all a nice dream and the bug is still there

If I put INTERRUPT=Yes in the monitor setting I DO get the sound pauses while panning the text in AmiPDF! Maybe with this option another IRQ is used?
@number6
I read the threads. Thanks. I think what I learned is that the AGP interrupt can overlap with the sound card interrupt to cause the playback pauses. But I'm not still sure how to cure this (i.e. change the IRQs). Not using an IRQ for AGP is an easy cure, though not the best due to performance problems.

From what I've read & know,
INTERUPT=YES, AmiPDF scrolling causes audio cutout & allows warp3d games to run at max speed.
INTERUPT=NO, no audio cutout while scrolling in AmiPDF & warp3d game are slower.
Pick your poison, I don't play games so I have it set to NO.
The audio cutouts in AmiPDF actually got worst with ud4.

I think we'll have to wait to hear what the new uboot has to offer on this issue.
@sundown
Agreed. Currently, I see this in many ways as tradeoffs regarding overall system performance, at least on our Micros.

Yes I can confirm this also.
I think G4 users won't notice this problem though due to altivec acceleration. I also think we will "loose" this "bug" when we get new hardware, as I think this has to do with the crappy VIA686B and Articia S combination.
Remember the problems DaveAE had with interrupts and the VIA686B

This started when we had to accept a motherboard that is designed with a PC structure in mind. So, we are re-experincing the problems that early PCs had. I remember the old days when evey card that I put in my old PC, I had to be worried about conflitcs.
I don't think a new hardware will directly solve this problem. It will just take some time for us to learn how to deal with IRQs rather than the good old classic Amiga way.

since we have more and more tools working with keyboardshortcut support, I was wondering how to use it in requesters. i.e. I was using NotePad and hit LAmiga F to find something in the text. Since the cursor was at the end and I was to lazy to pic up the mouse I tried invane to tell NotePad to search from top. there seems to be no way to use the keyboard shortcuts. To exit from the stringrequester I tried:
"enter"__________ starts the search and highlights the stringreq "shift enter"______ same as above "alt enter"________ same again "lamiga enter"_____ again.. "tab"____________ highlits the word in stringreq
so what's the keyb combination?
of course using RLAmiga and cursors to move the mouse pointer is a solution but not what I was looking for..

"disk" type icons that aren't called "disk.info" and residing in the root of a volume*, are now visible in WB.
* in this case they are visible under all OS releases of course.

I know that at least there's a new, improved kernel, which is required by the Quake 3 port.
