Mixer prefs is in Prefs/Env-Archive. Delete it & re-save from Mixer & see if that helps. _________________ Hate tends to make you look stupid... |

I amended my post #19 slightly, as I had left out the fact that I disabled "mute" before saving the preferences.

If running from Wbstartup you need the DONOTWAIT tooltype set to stop this not returning business.

Thanks much Curty. I was reading Dave's tooltypes from the docs and completely forgot the basic one I needed to include. I'll amend my post #19 again.

Mixer doesn't seem to look for the DONOTWAIT toolType. I just ran SnoopDOS & it's not checked when Mixer is started.

Although I amended post #19 I should add that adding "DONOTWAIT" does remedy the usual problem with WBstartup programs. If you are running "mixer" from user-startup it would not be needed. You are not running "mixer" from WBstartup are you? I only tested it this way because the docs indicated that it was -now- a commodity. I may move the program and images and initiate "mixer" from user-startup at a later date.
From the docs: Quote:
This is great to put in your s-s |
Why startup-sequence as opposed to user-startup? Anyone?

WD40 didn't do the trick
Deleted mixer.prefs and resaved from mixer. Still no joy. To get any sound with PlayCD have to open mixer after reboot and click the mute CD button on (mute) then off (no mute)?
This is my Mixer.prefs
MIXER1_0 NRCARDS_ 1 BEGINPRP DRVRNAME 7 cmi8738 6 65023 56319 65535 58367 57855 58879 ENDPROP_ ENDMIXER_
I have the following line in my user-startup:-
run >nil: sys:tools/mixer/mixer SETLEVELS ; mixer

Just for comparison sake my prefs show:
MIXER1_0 NRCARDS_ 2 BEGINPRP DRVRNAME 7 cmi8738 7 65535 65535 0 0 0 0 65535 ENDPROP_ BEGINPRP DRVRNAME 7 via686b 7 48622 48622 48622 48622 48622 48622 48622 ENDPROP_ ENDMIXER_
Edit(Added):Shot in the dark...are you using the September update v1.15 or the October update v1.16?

Does PlayCD audio work on µA1-C?
I know this will sound quite simplist, but works fine for me.
I simply plug my headphones into the audio jack on the front of my DVD-combo drive, startup PlayCD, and use PlayCD as a control panel for the drive. Hit the eject button, the tray slides out, pop in the CD, hit play (or select desired track and then hit play). When I'm done, I click the stop button and eject button. Volume slider in the PlayCD window can be used in conjuction with the audio volume control on the front of the drive (For example, I set the audio control on the front of the drive to a comfortable level and use slider in PlayCD to vary the volume).
Someday, I'll try hooking up an audio cable from the drive to the motherboard and see if I get any sound out the motherboard's audio jacks.

Well maybe your monitor will start up faster now.
I have a feeling that SETLEVELS is the problem. I have Mixer in SYS:WBStartUp & Images in SYS:Tools/Commodities/Images. Two tooltypes, CX_POPUP=NO & IMAGEPATH=Sys:Tools/Commodities/Images set in the icon.
Try without SETLEVELS as that sounds like it persets all the level inputs & in your case, mutes external cd. Last edited by sundown on 18-Dec-2005 at 10:55 PM.

Sounds like the volume is turned down on your CD drive. The CD drive has the ability to adjust the audio out on the output jack. stupid question did you raise the volume in playCD?

I could be wrong, but I just performed an AW search for "mixer". While there is a press release on version 1.15, there is no listing of a press release on version 1.16 (available currently on OS4depot). It is -possible- since Trevor travels a lot that he missed this update. Note:I have no idea whether there would be a true functional difference on his Micro through use of these two different versions, as I never used V1.15.

Thanks Kurt. But I wrote in post #19 a step-by-step that worked just fine for me. It is Trevor who is currently having a problem.

Hopefully it is what we suspect then. Just a version problem. As I said, he travels a lot. It's another strong argument for checking OS4depot regularly for updates. Heh! Now watch us be wrong about our conclusion. Note:This thread is helping you march forward to "super member" status.

The version number could be the problem I've just got to stop travelling I guess
Will load 1.16 and report back.

PlayCD now working fine. Problem was finally traced to me missing the latest update of mixer. Downloaded and installed v1.16 and all now working OK. What confused me was PlayCD worked fine on my A1-XE with the same version of Mixer, but not on the µA1-C!
Thanks to everyone who offered help and suggestions. What would I do without these forums?

It was probably CMI8738. That is why the XE functioned fine with the older version, but the Micro did not. And we are always happy to help.

Nice thread. Good discussion on getting this working through both the script method and the wbstartup method. Before closing I would like to add the following recent link to an extremely well thought out and well written piece by Kurt Grach concerning PlayCD: Post #125
