| Hello.
Well since January at least my system has been displaying a strange problem. After a time of usage it would start stalling and things would slow down. So far I seem to have tracked it down to IBrowse. If my system gets sluggish as if I am heavily multitasking and windows move in one approx one second increments I know the stalling has begun. If I quit IBrowse then it stops and the system comes good. Usually I can reopen IBrowse and all is fine for a while. But just now it started stalling again so I had to reset to come back and enter this.
Has anyone else encountered this strange stalling problem that can be linked to IBrowse?
I probably also mentioned it on one of the freezing threads. |

| @Hypex Your symptoms COULD be caused by running out of Video memory. Do you have it displayed in your Workbench title bar? Add " %mgm MB video free" to it if not. _________________

I agree with ChrisH, sounds like you're running low on gfx memory. What are your IB prefs cache settings? Opening a lot of tabs with a lot of images will take its toll. _________________ Hate tends to make you look stupid... |

Yes I do. Right now there is 51MB left of my 128MB DDR. And IBrowse is behaving. I remembered that even when it wasn't active4 and I was uisng something else it still had an effect. This made me wonder if the emulator was getting caught up with the IBrowse code. God knows it crashes at other times. Last edited by Hypex on 02-Jul-2009 at 08:46 AM.

I never noticed this problem before I had OS4.1 and on the G4.

Video memory is your graphics-card's memory, NOT your normal memory. Try adding what I mentioned to the WB's title bar & see what it says.
Unless you meant "128MB DDR", in which case I guess you might have a PCI gfx-card...Last edited by ChrisH on 01-Jul-2009 at 06:42 PM.

| @Hypex Have you tried using a CPU meter, to see if it is busy doing something when it is slow? _________________

I do have one. It seems hard to tell at time because it goes up and down like a waveform. But I have noticed some long drawn lines in short bursts. They are thin so easily missed, possibly taking up one or two seconds in realtime.
I thought it may be MUI related as well, but YAM clears up after IBrowse is killed. Whatever stage in development I just wish they compiled IBrowse so it is fully OS4 native! I mean hoe long has it been worked on since OS4 came out? Five years? We've got AWeb native and some alien browsers so how hard can it be to convert an Amiga program to run on OS4? |
