Ok, so as ssolie said:
Quote:
That is quite a scant press release. I see the users are finding most of the obvious new features and improvements but they have a long way to go. Keep digging guys.. there be more treasure inside.

Thanks ssolie!

So, what IS new in UD4 not on this list?
Quote:
* All-new Warp3D with support for Voodoo 3/4/5 and ATI Radeon models 7000, 7200, 7500, 9000, 9200 and 9250.
* Petunia Just-In-Time 68k emulator.
* All-new Intuition with advanced features like flicker-free window redraw and new screen dragging features (among other things, screens can be dragged freely in any direction and will reveal other screens beneath even if dragged sideways)
* Updated ExecSG kernel
* New Extended Input System allows the use of mouse wheels on both PS/2 and USB mice, and the use of Multimedia keyboards (with keys like volume control, play/pause etc)

Add to it as you find it!

Adding from all of you:
* OpenSSL is included in C: and LIBS:
* A program called PrefsObjectEditor is in Tools.. A XML prefs editor it seems.
* Better Screen mode editing (inside the monotor file). Not needing P96Screenmode anymore.
* Locale files included.
* A modular Screensaver is included.
* Extended GUI prefs.
* DOS support for 64 bit, potentially allowing someone to write a new filesystem with largefile support. NOTE: No, we still don't have a filesystem allowing largefile support, ie > 4GB (2GB or FFS?)
* New dockies - have a list?
* BIOS updater - Anyoneknow if this will work on previous releases or ud4 onwards only?
* BRU - For backing up the system.
* DPMS support for screenblanker (Power Mgmt)
* Mouse Input options- mouse speed now has a larger range of adjustment. Standard speed s now known as 1:1. Tap the speed up a notch & it becomes 3:2, then 2:1, then 3:1 & 4:1. Very handy for lower resolution meeces that are a little slow. It also now goes the other way. 2:3, 1:2, 1:3 & 1:4. Right down to a quarter of the speed.
* non-blocking option for menus in gui prefs.
* In a listview. Column widths can be resized in realtime.
* faster networking speeds/eth3com.device/RoadShow improvements
* AmiPDF is much faster then before. It doesn't interfere with the sound anymore during panning.
* ASL Prefs allows selection of default ASL sorting order.
* 'Clean Up By' actions now have keyboard shortcuts.
* Scroll Lock launches Help System.

New In Tools:
Commodities - CrossDOS
TypeManager with new functionlaity for adjusting and installing fonts.

'Corrected' DataTypes:
- ANIM
- CDXL
- WAVE

Find- you can now launch a file directly from Find results. Woo hoo (Seriously, I disliked 'open containing folder' just to launch a file..)

Bean found these:
* BIOS updater
* BRU - For backing up the system.

Most files have been recompiled or updated in someway since update 3.

Btw wegster, you should add everything found to your first post.
That way it would be easier to browse what's new

@DoodooHead

All the datatypes existed already in update 3. Although the descriptor file
for ANIM was missing..

@Samwel

Adding -you can now enable non blocking menus in gui prefs, so menus won't block screen refreshing anymore.

@Samwel

The bios updater contains an easter egg it will flash you after it succesfully flashes the bios.
got to be sharp to catch it as it is quick but it will do it and then proclaim flashing complete.

I don't recomend people flash thier Uboot to find the easter egg.
as a corrupt uboot will leave you with a brick until you can get a new chip

Mmm... the Blanker commodity (which, BTW, I prefer) has had this for ages... not really a novelty...

Quote:

* non-blocking option for menus in gui prefs.

This is another BIG thing about U4 that one can only fall in love with

Is that a salvage option I see in partition wizard for SFS filesystems as well as FFS?
I hope so!!

Sadly, I do not have OS4 due to no available hardware so I have to ask. What about the promised 64bit support for files larger than 2GB? In my opinion this is the most important feature in competition to other OSs to stay tuned on using growing and growing data. Is it integrated now? Does it work flawlessly with all kinds of applications like DOpus 4.x (no more displaying wrong filesizes)? If yes, then please add it

No change in the OS can magically fix old applications, if DOpus4.x doesn't support files > 2 (4) GB there is nothing the OS can do to make it work.

Is this aimed at everyone, or just a certain overclocking enthusiast.

@Luca67

BRU isn't on the update, I've no idea where that came from.

..But in tools there is something called SP_Engine? - What's this?

Cheers,
Bean.

I've noticed that the context menue for drawers and icons now contains "duplicate" in addition to "copy." "Duplicate" gives the usual "copy-of-file" that we are used to, but "copy" behaves like in linux -- nothing happens until you go to another open drawer and click in it. The context menu will now show a "paste" item.

Of course, Amiga always did copying by drag and drop, but only between volumes. For directories in the same volume, the drag and drop does a move rather than a copy. It was always awkward to copy files within the same volume.

@mr_homm

You can get around that by holding down RAmiga while dragging.

The context menu options have always been like that (at least on my system)
