Hi,

can we convince the programmr of this great GFX prog called PIXEL32 (http://pixel32.box.sk) to port his prog to AOS4?
It exists for several platforms: Windows, MAC, Linux and Morphos.

The morphos version took only 2 weeks to port!

I think that should be possible too with AOS4!

The program looks very professional as far as I can tell from the GUI and features: much like Photoshop or GIMP.

@Hyperion
If we can't convince the programmer to port his prog, perhaps Hyperion could convince him as he is looking for a job!

@hooligan

I saw your screenshot recently on Morphos: how well does the prog work/react on your your system?

@mbilla

While this version is just for MOS, I think its awesome that guys are amiga-izing the source code. Should make a future OS4 port a lot easier.

@mbilla

As I said earlier it's in alpha state, which means it will crash 100% sooner or later.
I urge people to download the Linux or Win version and try it.. then multiply that speed by a factor of two to get the speed under MorphOS

I haven't had so much time to toy with Pixel32 because this version came out only a few days ago, and the fact that it crashes so often. All in all the program is amazing.. really it's almost on par with GIMP/Photoshop/PaintShopPro-trio. Really close.
And the best part is that it's price is very cheap, and Pavel, the author is a really nice and helpful guy.

I think MorphOS has a killer app at hand here. Genesi did the right thing by donating him a board.

@mbilla

I stumbled upon pixel32 when i was using BeOS and it would be nice to see it on OS4. Perhaps someone could set up some fundraising to take care of the hardware part ?

@mbilla
I think we have to get Free Pascal first.

@Step

I wouldn't mind donating some money for hardware.

@All

What exactly is the terms for getting a port? Couldn't find anything in a quick scan of the site.

@Orgin

1) You need FPC. Someone has to port that, the code of ChainQ's port is clean afaik.
2) You need to persuade the author, which probably means sending him an AmigaONE.
3) You need the best LibSDL port you can have.

So... Start working and stop pleading for help!

@AMiGR

I see. Well, I'd be willing to sponsor a part of that AmigaOne.

what are you talking about? this donation is a resellers/user combo operation, nothing to do with genesi.

@thefab

So I stand corrected. I remember Genesi promising a free board many months ago when someone suggested a MOS-port of Pixel32. It was discussed here

Thats what I was talking about

Just playing with Pixel32 on Windows.

I'am amazed! This prog is fast! Even faster than Gimp on this PC!
As far as I can tell it has al the necessary features one needs. Animated brushes can be previewed just by holding the mouse pointer over the selected brush.
The progs has many nice helpfull features.
Though it is still missing magic scisors or the intelligent scisors, but I think that will come in version 2 of the prog.

The price now for 32$ is very low even the later price for 75-100$ is low compared to what the prog can do.
I would pay 200$ for it!

@hooligan

you're completely wrong, Genesi (aka bbrv) only "discussed" of it.
as usual Genesi didn't spend a single penny in this operation.

the sponsors for this free peg are:

RMS-Communication
Pegasos-Suisse (alias RELEC)
Denis Ghautier (a french user)

if someone could stop saying "Genesi woooot wooot -insert xx dancing banana here-
thanks you!!!!!!"

please...

I just tried the windows version...but the look and feel didn´t impress me very much. It looks some kind of blurry . But it is very simple and you can get good results very fast!
Seems to be a nice and fast app for smaller tasks...

@mbilla

quote from the pixel32 about : "most of routines written in highly optimized 32-bit assembler decreasing program's size and increasing its speed"

So have the asm parts also been ported to PPC!?

I think Inkscape (GPL, so source is available for a port) is a very good drawing program: http://www.inkscape.org/ - its at v0.4 currently and runs quite nice on my Windoze 800MHz PIII. It producs SVG and can export to PNG, too

It uses GTK2, though. So we would also need a port of that first...

@all

i've already contacted the author for a possible port. It need an A1 first, and with soft3 - m3x we have found it. But now it doesn't have time to make this port and however it is indispensable the freepascal compiler..

So if someone wants to port the freepascal compiler, a port of pixel32 could be made, but without it..

Why not porting Gimp to Amiga? Very useful application indeed. Cinepaint (formerly known as FilmGimp) which is frequently used by many compositors in Highend (2K) motion picture editing http://cinepaint.sourceforge.net/ It has support for lots of different image format such as OpenExr,TIFF etc. Wouldnt that be nice on Amiga?

And what happened to Photogenics? http://www.idruna.com/photogenicshdr.html have ppl forgotten about it? The HDR version has support for 32bit per channel and image formats such as OpenEXR,Alias IFF,Cineon/DPX, Lightwave FLX and more. The development seems to be only on Linux and Windows nowaday but it was originally coded on Amiga so the code for updating it to AOS4 should be there. Anyone heard anything and is the interest there?

@thefab
You are right, the sponsor team of Pavel for the MorphOS version is :

Quote:
RMS-Communication, une agence de communication suisse, Denis Gauthier, un utilisateur français et Pegasos-suisse.com, le distributeur suisse

Genesi never give a Pegasos to Pavel.

@Hooligan
Don't hide the truth, it'll desserve you, and MorphOS.
