..and what a wonderful start of the month it is.

* I have my µA1 working perfectly.
* I have installed quite a few usable software since I got it.
* OS4 is almost done.

Which takes me to my questions..

1. Where does the memory support lie in the µA1?
Hardware level (VIA) or UBoot?
If VIA then every SO-DIMM working on VIA 686 laptops
should work on µA1, am I not correct?

2. Are we getting an update to OS4 in the near future?
Say within this month or the next? Dma would be nice!

3. How are you getting along with the Warp3D drivers for
Radeon? Will we see Warp3D in any update before the
final release?

4. Will Radeon 7000 see any benefit from a 3D driver?

The best to you guys and all your little helpers!
You're doing a GRRRREAT job! Hope your having as much
fun as we users..

Btw I found a small bug in UnArc. Who/where do I tell this to?

/Harry

Ps. Damn I don't have Altivec in my 750GX! Now every G4
owner will be able to play with MPlayer smootly as silk.
Hopefully it will not be that much slower on 750GX. Ds.

errr.... in a word - nope.

in more words:
no, the Memory is handled by the North bridge, which is the MAI Articia.
the VIA686 is the South bridge, dealing with (among other things) IDE, USB
and floppies.

UBoot can be set to deal with different timings.

agreed ! I'm looking forward to these answers too ! I believe Warp3d
is imminent, and Yes, Radeon will be one of the 1st to get 3d driver support.

I hae MPlayer in linux, it runs fine (dem fine !) on my XE,
so it ought to be a tad smoother in AOS4.

The memory is initialized in U-Boot. The memory controller inside the Articia must be initialized properly for the memory DIMM you use. It's not a VIA thing, though.

The only way to find out if a module works is by plugging it in I'm afraid.

Yes, there will most likely be an update in the course of this month. Note I said "most likely", don't kill me if there isn't...

It seems I finally finished the Radeon R1x0 driver. It will go into beta test next, while I start the Radeon R2x0 driverr. If all goes well, Warp3D will be released this months. Note again, If all goes well

Yes, the driver works on the Radeon 7000 as well. The 7000 isn't exactly the fastest chip around, but anything is better than software rendering (short of a Virge, maybe ) The 7000 lacks the T&L unit, but that will only become an issue with Nova, not with the current Warp3D (the Voodoo cards also don't have a T&L unit).

I thought DMA was enabled on the µA1 by default?

Umm, is that pedestal comfortable enough? Would you like it a little higher?

Great Job!!!! I hope all goes well too!! Quick question- I Know this is superficial but Since you and the team has plainly placed a ton of features into AOS 4.0 that were certainly slated for 4.1 and maybe 4.2 would it not be safe to just start applying the lable AOS 4.1 instead of 4.0 ( don't kill me on this ) Just wanted to know if you think it might be justified. Any way as I said Great Job- keep it up.

There seems to be an awful lot of confusion about this topic that I don't really understand.

Point 1: 'DMA' as in 'Direct Memory Access' has been in AmigaOS 4.0 since the first day.

Point 2: 'DMA' as in 'UDMA modes for harddisks' is currently only available for the Silicon Images controllers, and needs to be enabled (see Stèphane Guillard's excellent article on intuitionbase).

Point 3: DMA for a1ide device cannot be enabled except for beta testers.

Point 4: DMA in the public drivers only works for harddisks, not for CD/DVD drives. The internal drivers already support it.

I hope this somewhat clears it up.

@Hitback

Would look a bit strange if you go from 3.9 directy to 4.1, don't you think

Moreover, trolls could always say "Hyperion will never deliver Amiga OS 4.0"

Everytime somebody says DMA I immediately think of the Blood Money game intro. "A D.M.A. DESIGN GAME."

Anybody else?
