| Is there any existing emulator for PlayStation 2? Or has Sony stopped everyone?
Would such an emulator be usable on a 800MHz AmigaOne?

| The three I found all use either GTK/GDK/Glade or Win32 APIs, which makes it a PITA. One of them had SDL at some point it seems, but not sure about now.

| Well, I started porting PCSX2 some time ago when PCSX2 was at v0.6 I think. I never finished the port and there are still a bunch of endian bugs in there, but the BIOS seems to be working and so are a bunch of demos. However, without a recompiler it's very slow. Writing one shouldn't be that hard though. |

Donno if the ppc can make the code co so much faster then a x68 cpu. Cause right now you get around 2 FPS with an Intel P4 3,2 Ghz, 1GB Ram, Nvidia 6800 GT 256 mb etc etc.
So i guess (if the ppc isn't PS2 magic) the emulator would be flying at 0.1 FPS. Thats not even fun to use just to take a screenshot or two. |

| Is it so slow? Did not know PS2 was so hard to emulate. I think it is just because the emulator is young.

What is it then ? Surely it's not X86, is it ?
Cheers,

And probably also because the PS2 emotion engine doesn't work in the same way as PC graphics cards. _________________ Playstation Network ID: xeron6 |

Hmmm, when it is 2 fps on 3.2 GHz x86 it should be around 0.8 fps on a 800 MHz, not 0.1 (Yeah, I know it is a stupid way to calculate this, and will probably not be correct this way, but still 20x slower sounds too slow to me... xMame runs on my 800 MHz A1 half the speed like how on my 2.4 GHz P4 for example). But your point (it is too slow) is of course well-taken.
Principial stuff: Glade/... could get thrown out as it is only used for the GUI I'd guess (Shell-based version). Though of course Direct3D usage would make it a pain to port, and taken above mentioned speed not really worth it.
As to the question somebody raised what CPU the PS2 has - it is a MIPS-based CPU, like for the PS1. The one with the PPC (actually PPC-derivative, not a "normal" PPC) is the (unreleased) PS3.
