STRBackdrop isn't working

Has anyone got STRBackdrop working with Update 3?

I have it installed here, all files in place & I have a list of the images I want to use (The top line is how many images follow) etc... but it isn't changing the background. It definately running because if I change my Workbench background, when STRBackdrop runs it reverts to my original Saved background. Then it doesn't change again (If it does, it's picking the saved background again).

Does the Rexx script need editing? Any ideas?

After a little trying out things, I have run STRBackdrop on it's own in CLI with SnoopDOS in running.

STRBackdrop tries to rename it's temp file to that of WBPattern.prefs:

WBPattern.tmp > WBPattern.prefs

I guess this is the replacement file that changes the backdrop. SnoopDOS reports this as a 'fail' so I tried: "C:STRBackdrop SYS:Test/1.iff".

It seems that "WBPattern.prefs" cannot be replaced. Could this be something to do with ENV: now being 'virtual' rather than an actual assign in RAM:?

@FuZion

Use rndwbpix.lha instead. It's simpler and works reliably.

@ajvisser

I do not find mdwbpix.lha at OS4Depot.

Where is it?

@ggw

Cheers. I got it from AmiNet & it works fine with OS4. Now, I don't suppose anyone knows how I can get it to auto run every whatever minutes (Like STR is supposed to do).

Could it be possible to edit the ARexx script to run mdwbpix.lha instead?

@FuZion

I only run it at startup. Personaly I don't think I'd care for a new backdrop
every few minutes. But, you should just need a timer program that would run it
again.

Something else seems to be using the prefs file. I know its not Update 3 related as I am a beta tester for OS4 and I've never seen it not be able to replace that file. (Well, not exactly, while developing the program I did have it crash with the prefs file open which locked it. But that's not the case here.)

Use Scout and see if you can find out which program is holding a lock on WBPattern.prefs.

@STRICQ

I'm resurrect that old topic to ask help on StrBackDrop...

I tryed that but it seems to not works...

I'm using AmigaOS4.1.1 and I tryes StrBackdop package but...
When the RandomBackdrops.rexx file was launched I get an erorr window where was write that the wbpattern.prefs file wasnt readable...
May StrBackdrop will change it in a way that was no more lagal?
Any other program to use to randomize backdrop display?

Thanks!

@Snuffy

Yes. That was interesting information back in 2005.
