Suddenyly can't automatically boot into AmigaOS!

Okay...somehow UBoot 1.1.1 lost my Linux settings -- I haven't done anything to UBoot itself; it worked fine with Update 3 ever since the day it came out, it's just that last night suddenly it lost the Linux boot command...

Anyhoo, when I got it enabled again, suddenly I can't boot into AmigaOS. When I start 'er up I get directly to the UBoot menu, and the only way I can get into AmigaOS is to manually type "boota". I checked my UBoot settings, I have Amiga Multiboot enabled, Default configuration chosen, debuglevel=0 in AmigaOS boot settings, autostart yes...

Hints?? What else should I be checking for???

@dauber

see the inlay info in your pre release cd.

and boot off cdrom into os4 and open MTB and install SLB on your harddrive (if it aint present (and check that it is the correct SLB too).

OK...turns out for some reason the bootcmd and menuboot_cmd variables weren't set properly. I can boot automatically into AOS4 now, although for some reason before the Workbench screen comes up I get probably about 20 seconds of black screen and no drive activity....weird...

[Now to figure out why I can't get Linux as a selectable option even though I have it installed on the same drive as OS4!]

You probably need the ide_conf variable. Mine is set like this:

ide_conf=1020

where each number position represents a position in the IDE chains - primary master, primary slave, secondary master, secondary slave. '1' is a hard drive, '2' is a CD/DVD drive, '0' means no drive is attached.

In my case, the laptop CDRW drive I use is (sort of) recognized on both of the secondary IDE positions, and it takes OS4 a while to realize I -don't- have a secondary slave. The ide_conf variable tells it to not autoscan the IDE chains.

Caveat: I have no clue how this changes if a PCI IDE controller card (SiIxxxx) is used.

@dauber

I am having similiar problems, changed the battery twice, most uboot setiings in the preference menu are fine I suspect somewhere along the line either the video setting have become corrupt or lost or my video board has turned up its toes.

My real trouble is I only have a few hours each week now on the internet (working away from home), and as few hours to devote to trying to fix it.

Any suggestions will be warmly welcomed. It gets all the way to kickstart but when the video should kick in there is just a blank screen.

Like an idiot I did not burn a backup OS and of course my Sil card is not recognisied by the original disk. I just have run out of time for much more fiddling at this point.

I have a similar thing happening with my AmigaOne when I try to boot it up, but with mine it resets automatically and then boot process starts again. Though I did get a checksum error when I tried to update to the latest UBoot 1.1.1 (05-Mar-05 I think it is). I don't have a clue what could've caused the checksum error...cosmic rays maybe .

I'll try reflashing but doubt that will work since it will say that the version of UBoot is already current.

I think I need to get my UBoot chip reprogrammed or another UBoot chip since I tried a UBoot chip from a friend's MicroA1 and the computer was able to boot up all the way into Workbench. Have you tried that?

That’s just driver initialize in the kickstart, disable all not used SIL (SII) drivers in the kickstartlayout in the kickstart drawer found on sys: drive,

(Maybe you can do this in UBOOT too I don’t know)

Hi dauber,

I have the same problem, except, it can take up to 120 seconds for my AmigaOne to boot up.

I'm going to try what syrtran suggested.

Hi NutsAboutAmiga,

I don't have a sil card, I'm connected straight to the motherboard.

This is from my kicklayout found in sys:kickstart, if sii driver are loaded you get 20 sec of black screen
if you remove them like I did, you get 1 sec of black screen,

(only change this in the default area)

Yep...I realise that just a matter of finding the time to do it

If that doesn't work out then I'll need to try reprogramming the chip then I'll need to get the image file and someone with an EPROM, probably easier to get a chip from an Amiga dealer in Australia.

I know what I need to do to get my AmigaOne going again it's just a matter of getting around to doing it.

Thanks for the tip
