Is there an OS4 version? I remember hearing something a few years ago, but nothing since.

Hi,

I spoke to them only a week ago and was told that things where coming along well and that good progress is being made.

Still no info on a possible release date though.

I even offered to pay right now and go on a waiting list.

I really miss using Opus and just can't used to the feel of the older versions.

Ciao, Trev Daley.

We work in silence, a method I've found to be very effective. One day, it'll be announced that it's available and in stores already, and that is what we're aiming for. Not too much fuzz, just action.

So no, it's not dead by a longshot. The entire package has been ported over to C code, apart from a tiny part (the very core of Magellan) which is still in ASM. This part (approx 12KB) is the last bit to rewrite, and that is being done now.

As you might understand, we're closing in on release - rapidly. Keep your eyes open the coming months.

Ohh! Thanx! Got my fix, this is just what I needed. This one will keep me happy for another 6 months! My eyes are wide open, believe me! :) Intresting read really, and impressing that it's all rewritten. And good luck with that nasty core!

@GuruMeditation

Lovely stuff!

I had DOpus Magellen installed on my A1200, and it made everything a lot easier to do. I look forward to playing with it on my AmigaOne!

Now we can begin to speculate about which comes first:
OS4-final or Dopus OS4

Great news! DOpusMag is the missing piece in my OS4 setup.

Can you tell us anything about the pricing?
Can I upgrade from my classic version?

@BrandonLee

There will be two versions available:

1) the full package, ie - CD and printed manual.

2) the download version, where you'll get the manual as a PDF or similar (download may be replaced by "just CD")

Naturally, option 2 will be cheaper than option 1. As for upgrade options : there will be none, as we've made a substantial investment in this and we need to see a return on that, especially now with the Guru Meditation / Troika agreement.

@GuruMeditation

I'll buy a copy regardless, since DOpus is my all-time favourite tool.

Just one more thing: will the old (paper) manual be of use or are there too many news features?

I'll keep your site under close scrutiny, to check when it comes out. Thanks.

@GuruMeditation

Was DOpus written in asm???

What DOpus are you porting? Mag-II 5.82, or are you backporting one of the newer Windows versions?

Actually, he said:

I interpreted this as it was not in C, but in something else (like asm)... :)

Anyway.. it sounds like it is Magellan 5.82 then, and not any of the Windows versions.

@Deniil715

It was done in SAS/C with parts of assembler code where it was needed for speed. It is now converted to ANSI C, apart from a few hundred bytes of asm code.

@GuruMeditation

SAS/C to GCC has to be fun ...or NOT!
I ported a DICE program to GCC once and that was smooth I must say! But Magellan has got to have a thousand hooks and subtasks and stuff that IIRC SAS has some especially fun syntax for handling.....

Oh, how I love E...
