sounds like it could boot from a qoob chip equipped Gamecube to me...

I've seen it boot from the memory card in a camera. with my own eyes!

very impressive!
I love the idea of carrying your own AO4 on a thumb drive and plugging it in a friend's amiga. now THAT is the ultimate portability!

So is the big licensee partner a company doing cameras?

Very interestng!

EDIT see answer of Cecilia and y reply to it, down this forum!

@mbilla

Well, you can boot from a USB memory stick, cant you? And OS4 sees my digital camera as an external USB memory stick, so why shouldnt it be possible to write the OS to your cameras mem. stick and use it to boot from?

???
Hmm maybe theres some mix up with Amiga DE here. Software for running from memory sticks was announced on the amiga.com web page a while ago.
Only speculation, but I think its more likely than AmigaOS 4 at this stage due to hardware.

edit 'cause I'm trying to get off the computer quick and don't have time to wait for a reply.

Are there any PPC based cameras/ other embeded devices with a PPC capable, or is this posibly a retargetted build of AmigaOS 4, like the pda screenshot mockups on Hyperions site may suggest??? OK got to go, will catch up on this thread tomorrow :)

ok, wiseguy, as you are quoting ME, I'll give a more detailed explaination:

At an amiga meeting some months ago one of our members was showing how you could boot OS4 from any USB device. It doesn't really matter what the device is - all that matters is that it is seen as masstorage on OS4. Which you then format and copy your boot files (and whatever other files you like depending on the size you have to play with).

If i recall correctly you have to do some fiddling with UBoot so it boots from the USB device first, but as I don't have an amigaone don't ask me the details about that.

anyway, this person had a camera (handy) and just used that as the example. naturally, it makes a bit more sense to use a thumb drive or maybe one of those mp3 players. But it's not the camera part that is important here. it's the PORTABLE flash drive.
the fact that you could put OS4 IN YOUR POCKET!!!

Being able to walk around with your system in your pocket is - to me - a revolution.

@cecilia

Ah! OK! I did misunderstand your posting!
I thought the cam did boot AOS!

Theoretically my mobile phone SE K750i which can have a 2GB (or even 4GB if avaible) memory stick, can act as a boot device for my A1. Already now my A1 has access to the memroy stick, even if the phone is switched off!

Or my Swiss Amry knife with memory stick can act as boot device too!

Actually it's cool.

So sorry for quoting you with wrong ideas!

Perhaps in the future AmigaOS 3.X can run on CompactFlash computer based on ColdFire CPU. Several digital cameras, printers and digital TV have compact flash slot.
Perhaps in the future the tiny computer can be used for image / video editing.
