@all

Following my earlier posting about finally getting Mplayer to work on my µA1-C I received a couple of requests on how to optimise video memory.

Click here for link

I mentioned in my previous post that the Graphics optimisation was based on an excellent article by @Toaks in the current edition (#22) of Total Amiga magazine.

I was asked to briefly summarise Video memory optimisation (based on @Toaks article):-

1.To check the current video memory using Workbench Preferences. Select insert (Screen Title Format) and tag the following options:-

Memory : Type - Video : Show - Free : Unit - MB

Select 'Use' and the 'free video memory' will be displayed in the Workbench Title Bar.

2. Alter workbench pattern preference using using WBPattern Preferences.
Make sure that Layout is not set to 'Scale well' which eats a lot of video memory. It is better to change the size of your workbench picture, in an image processing program, (eg ImageFX etc) to the same size as your selected screen mode.

3. Alter the windows refresh type to 'Simple' (from 'Smart') using the GUI Preferences program under the 'Options' subsystem. Ensure that 'Smart Refresh' is not tagged in the 'Contols' subsystem under Miscellaneous.

This is a very brief overview of @Toaks article to which all the credit must go. I recommend reading the full article in Total Amiga for a more complete understanding of the whole process.

@TrevorDick

Ah! So you can set the free video memory now, cool! I've been waiting for this. Must have come in upd3, right

Oh, and please, don't post links like that, they make the page so wide
Write
  [ url=http://veeeeery_long_link.html ]short text[ /url ]
(without spaces) so only "short text" will be seen and clickable instead of the entire long unwrappable link.

Your welcome, but credit has to go to @Toaks!

Sorry about the loooonnnnnnngggggggggggggggggggg link! I haven't worked out how to show a highlighted link in IBrowse or AWeb?

I did not think it would be a problem however because all I have to do is double click on the long link and IBrose/AWeb automatically opens the linked page?

@TrevorDick

You were perfect on the link shortening. One easy way to do this is:

(1)Type in the reply box "[url="
(2)Paste the actual "url"
(3)Type "]"
(4)Add the text you wish to show in place of the actual "url"
(5)Then finish by adding "[/url]"

Double quotes not to be typed.
You can then test this through AW preview before posting.

Edit:Instruction made more generic and simplified

Can't P96 use the fastmem as (i think?) CGX did?

I never had to mess with such stuff with my A1200 with Bvision.
