I have (very) recently set up a wireless network using a D-Lin624+ router. Consisting of a wireless enabled laptop, a wireless network enabled printer and an ethernet cable to the desktop PC. Everything works fine and I am realy pleased, and surprised, how easy it was.

I would like to connect my A1 to the network/internet and have physicaly connected it via an ethernet cable. The light beside the ethernet port on my A1 is lit, so it is physically working, but I don't know what to do as far as setting up Roadshow, Aweb and/or Ibrowse.

I have never been on the internet, or a network with any of my Amiga's so I am a complete dunce in this area. I understand I would need to set up a seperate partition for the browser cache, but other than that I am just guessing.

I have tried to set up a connection using the programs in the Sys;internet directory but haven't managed to connect to the router.

Any help, or a link to a tutorial (idiot's guide), would be really appreciated.

What is the gateway ip of your router ?

Common one is 192.168.0.1





I have my A1 set to static ip of 192.168.0.2 but you can set yours to dhcp if you require.

add here the host addresses from other computers/printers that are connected to
the router for later networking

192.168.0.2 (again your router's adress - to use the DHCP capabilities)

not needed unless you need networking, refer to e.g. samba

(you may need to access the router's menue through a PeeCee, AWeb/IBrowse
may not be able to display these pages and of course configure your router to
use hardware firewall and such

It's been a long time since I first hooked my A1 to the internet, but I believe there was some kind of setup 'Wizard'. I'll check when I get home.

Very easy connecting an A1 to an ethernet router. Open Internet prefs and under 'Interfaces' option make sure ethernet driver is specified and if you want to give your A1 a static IP enter one here 10.0.0.x making sure that you don't use the router's IP (which is usually 10.0.0.2). In the Routes option, enter the Router IP in the Gateway address and click Save.

To check that your A1 and router are talking to each other use the Ping command in Shell. For example, if I enter Ping 10.0.0.2 my XE pings the router and returns no errors. By checking this, you can be sure that the router and A1 can talk and should be OK.

Check the fourth comment down.

It appears your router IS using 192.168.0.01 as its gateway addy.

I have gone into Prefs/internet, and used your settings except the address of the router, I had to use 192.168.0.1 to configure the router when first setting it up.
Therfore I have used that.

How do I find out these?

I am posting this from my A1. :)

I have launched Aweb (Aweb APL lite 3.5.05 beta) and selected 'open www' from the menu, on logging on to Amigaorld.net I kept getting cookie alerts, I have just accepted them but I am not sure if that was correct or not.
Once I logged into AW, I am getting my default colour scheme, but no pics.

As far as AWeb is concerned, are there any configure guides.
At the moment no images are displayed, I just get a box with an outdoor picture in it?
How do I set the cache to default to ram? etc

These are only required when u use SaMBa, IIRC.

You can find your other computer's name (if WIndows) bij opening its configuration screen, select System, then you select the Tab 'Computer Name' . First you find a description. Not interesting. Then you find the name of that computer and finally the name of the workgroup.

After you have succeeded in surfin' the net with your Amiga, then go for SaMBa! First go into meditation for about a week and then take the plunge

As @OldFart pointed out, they are only needed if you want to network your
machines, for this matter take the tour to learn on how
to install and use SAMBA.

The addresses can be given by yourself, each machine must have a unique address
e.g. 192.168.10.1, 192.168.10.2 and so on...

Thanks for that, I have just installed that version, and I now get images, and avatars displayed.
I have set Aweb to open on it's own screen, added it to the prefs/screens, and it looks a lot more modern.

1. How do I set up Favourites/bookmarks in AWeb?
2. Is it possible for AWeb to 'remember' passwords, i.e. to log on to Amigaworld.
3. The quote button doesn't work, when posting a reply. I have to copy/paste to quote a post I am replying to. Is this just a simple setting?

The button at top right of your screen brings up your bookmarks. It is called the "Hotlist".

To add a site to your hotlist click the button just to the left of the hotlist.

As long as the password is stored in a cookie, yes
At AmigaWorld.net go to your user account, edit it and tick the
"Store my password in a cookie for one year" checkmark (at the bottom)

Nope, sorry, most of AW.net's buttons are JS related and the "quote" button
together with the "add url" button and many more (while posting or replying)
aren't supported by AWeb's JS, yet (Andy is working on it)

You can, of course, do this by hand, simply put [ quote ] /w/o the spaces)
before your text and [ /quote ] at the end of it.

I have been donig that anyway, so I'll have to wait for better JS support.

On looking at the FAQ on the AWeb site, the aweb screen needs to be 256colours(8bit) screen. I have changed Aweb to that and I can print, but only in black and white, although I thnk that that is down to the particular printer/printer driver that I am using.

Anyway thanks for all your help I am starting to get the hang of AWeb, the next thing will have to be IBrwose, then Simplemail, then Wookie Chat, then.........

My A1 has realy made my Amiga experience fun again
