OK, I figured out how to get it to work, kind of.

First, I think the biggest difference between this and the older Vista mentioned in another thread, is VistaPro 3.00 (and 3.05) opens up it's main screen without a screen name and tries to clone the Workbench screens screenmode. Without any kind of mode promotion, this comes back with a screenmode that VistaPro is not compatible with (in my case a 32bit-chunky rather than a planar one), for which it normally would silently fail (on my old A3000 that is what it would do). For some reason under OS4, it hangs the system after a few seconds, requiring a press of either the reset button or the power button. And since the screen has no name, the Screens prefs will not work with it at all, meaning it cannot be used to force the screenmode to something else.

Then there is a second screen that does have a name, but it also needs to be a planar screen for both versions above. That one at least should be capable of being handled through the Screens mode promotion capabilities. However, I have not gotten to the stage where I can verify this.

Simply put, OS4 on it's own cannot run VistaPro 3 without either E-UAE, or a separate mode promotion utility.

I downloaded ModePro from Aminet and set it up, but not to autoboot. It was able to catch both screens from VistaPro and let me promote them to one of the "fakenative" modes. This allowed VistaPro to open, and appears to function normally, without E-UAE!

Now, I also have a beta version of VistaPro, version 3.10o, that was never released. It included preliminary Picasso 96 screenmode capabilities for the output window. It semi-works in this setup, however it is kinda clunky and usually gets the output screen screwed up because ModePro tends to get in the way (I still have to use ModePro even to get it to open, and it also tries to grab the render screen when it opens).

So, anyone have any ideas on how we can get better mode-promotion capabilities in OS4 Final? I think it's unfortunate that the Screens Prefs is not capable of grabbing screens without screen names.

And to prove it, I'll be uploading to the picture area here a couple renders I did with it.

And here are links to the pictures:

I uploaded two pictures for this but they have not shown up yet. Anyone know if it normally take a little while for them to show up?

Ahh, well sussed out DWolfman. It's working to a degree here too. The main screen isn't redrawing correctly here & the rendering is a little flakey. It worked a moment ago but the colours were all over the place, then it locked up. But, it's come up at least.

Agreed.
BTW-VistaPro 2.02 works with all features I've tested right out of the box, with
"Planar screens on RTG" checked in GUI Preferences/Control.

VistaLite is behaving as VistaPro 3.x, as expected.

Included for comparison sake only:
Booting update#4 partition (where Prefs/GUI has NO "Planar screens on RTG"
option), VistaPro 2.02 works with modepro. VistaPro 3.x and VistaLite do not
function "out of the box", but neither do they freeze the system.

Don't know if it's relevant but Vista Pro 3 requires Stack 50000 at the start of the script.

That is icon default.
Plus I raised the stack before testing.

I tried multiple stack sizes, up through 1 MB. No difference that I could see at least. It just worked as long as the mode promotion util was set up right, even with the default of 50000.

And for those that are seeing strange issues on the main screen, like not showing the map or the menus not disappearing, you are not using the right screenmode to promote to. You need to choose one of the FakeNative modes for the screen to work right.
