| Hello, last week I purchased HP Photosmart C6280 All-in-One. At first I did not believed that I will be able to use it for more than printing texts, if at all, like from the bad experience I had with a Lexmark printer 8 years ago, which I was unable to even start under AmigaOS 3.9 back then, so I gave it away. Now with AmigaOS 4.1, the experience was more positive than ever. Now I can print and scan on my Amiga almost without problems, only if The Grim Reaper was not showing before every printout #?!!!#? _________________ Games, programs, reviews |

Nice report! I haven't read all of it yet, but I just wanted to comment on the part where you configure lpr.device. You should not use "echo > ENV: ....", because ENV: is no longer to be considered a regular filesystem. Instead, use e.g. "SetEnv SAVE lpr.device HOST=192.168.2.101 MEMORY RAW QUEUE=amiga" (I also added the SAVE keyword since I assume you wanted it to persist?).
BTW, in my lpr.device env-var, I only have the IP address, followed by RAW, not MEMORY or the QUEUE stuff, and I don't tend to get any GRs when printing. This is to a print server where a Canon S630 is connected, but It might work in your setup too - worth a shot at least.
Best regards,
Niels

By Scanning do you mean the printer scans something and prints it? If that is the case I'd say that is the case for any ALL in 1 printers, the Epson Stylus Colour here does that too.
BUT, if you mean you scan something and it somehow ends up in digital form in your AmigaOS4.1 then I'll be very interested

I scan and then have the image in digital form right on my Amiga. First it was only on the WebBrowser, but because OWB does not save images yet, with little configuration in IBrowse, you can have the image saved on your Amiga. _________________ Games, programs, reviews |

Thank you for your suggestion. After removing the MEMORY and QUEUE=amiga from the lpr.device file, now The Grim Reaper no more comes to visit. Now printing is ever more flawless. _________________ Games, programs, reviews |

| @Slayer I have an HP C6180 All-in-one which has a USB slot for plugging in Flash drives in addition to the memory cards like the 6280. I have the printer connected to my µA1/OS4.1 via USB. When connected with USB instead of (in addition to??) through Ethernet, any memory card or flash drive plugged into the printer shows up as a storage device on WorkBench. When scanning, the images are sent to the memory device plugged into the printer and I can copy them from there to my hard-disk. Maybe the scanning software that comes on the CD with the printer offers more scanning options but basic scanning from the scanner control panel on the printer and copying the images with Dopus4 works great for me.

That's good to know, thanks for the clarification
@xenon
This sounds like a nice alternative, thanks for that!

| @drHirudo I'm not sure what printer drivers you tried from the Amiga but the HP_Photosmart driver from OS4Depot or the HP_Deskjet 1100C driver that comes with OS 4.1 work pretty well for me. As far as getting the images with OWB, just click MMB over the image and select "Copy Image" from the popup menu. An image file will appear in Ram:Clipboards that you can view with Multiview or copy to a disk and rename.

Thank you - copying the image to RAM: Clipboards works fine. I will add it to my report._________________ Games, programs, reviews |

What about printing to two printers?
I have a laser printer directly attached to my A1 via parallel, and I have a HP photosmart on the network. The laser printer could be connected via ethernet, or USB, so I wonder whether Turboprint or the OS4 printing systems could use two device drivers for two different printers, and how you would select them. _________________ Peter Swallow. You certainly can with Turboprint. The first tab "Printer" will let you add as many different printer configuration settings as you want. Each can specify the device and printer to use. So no problem.
To select which you want without running the TurboPrefs GUI use AmigaDOS.
'path:TurboPrefs -cNAME' where NAME is the name of the config you wish to switch to.
No idea about the standard Amiga printers though.

AmigaOS can handle upto 10 different printers since OS3.5 (Prefs/Printer), but the appplication must support it - if you want to use something else as printerunit 0. |

I know Turboprint can have several printers installed, but I thought it only used one device.
I'll have to have a play.

You dont need to make changes to NSDPatch.cfg, except you want to use some very old apps that bypass the printersystem and dont have a option to change the used device. Its enough to set lpr.device in Prefs/Printer. |

When I went back to using parallel from USB - my Mac is now plugged into the USB port on the printer - I had to change the device in each T.P. config individually. It is not global so you can do it.

I changed the NSDPatch.cfg file, to play it safe. Sometime I use very old apps. For Example I use TurboCalc 3.5 for calculations.

| Hello,
good news, thanks for the infos. Now I am able to scan from my HP Officejet 7410 as well.
I have got my printer running with the Amiga 1200 / OS4 and after with SAM OS4.1 since the beginning of OS4 Classic. I am also using lpr device:
Scanning: Did not work until now. I already tried to access the Scanning Webinterface with early OWB Versions from OS4 Classic and IBrowse. None of them worked. From SAM I tried OWB 3.x something but did not work either. This article made try it again with OWB 3.5/3.6 and IBrowse: It does not work on IBrowse (seems like I have a different inbuild webscanning interface), but works ONLY on OWB3.5. under OWB 3.6 nothing happens when pressing the preview or scan button... ??? Alternativly you can scan to a memory card and access it via LAN/SAMBA or USB. But I did not manage to get it connected via SAMBA (I have to addmit I am very new to SAMBA), neither USB. Even though other Amigans can connect via USB (Amiga1 OS4 Final) and access memory card. On OS4.1 Beta for SAM, system freezes after plugging in USB connection, so the cardreader will not show up as masstorage device.
Printing: HP_Photosmartdriver from OS4depot works best for me and reaches about 70% of what my winXP can do with the printer. Problem is the resolution and the darkness of the print (even after setting "Treshhold" to 15.. Also tried Turboprint 7.20 but the advanced printerdrivers only print half way or less...
