| Where's OS4? It was hinted for Christmas, then we were told "Soon after the New Year," which means to me sometime in January. No? First Quarter 2004? "When It's Done?" I can't stand it any more! Stop teasing us like this! You'll drive me insane, and then I'll start liking Linux! It's not fair! /holding breath til i turn blue/ _________________ Have you hugged a Hyperion programmer today? |

That's the best news I've heard all day. And this was a few days ago? How long will it take for testing, getting a couple of thousand copies pressed and distributing them?
It might just about make January.

| When its' done!
Everybody is anxious to see it and get it, which is totally understandable, but lets all try to give the developers a break by not assuming it should be here already and pestering them over it too much
Patience, people.

Well, there's a downside to that. If no one made any noise about wanting it, that couldn't possibly be considered as even remotely encouraging to the developers, now could it?
Imagine only ever getting to hear the beatchin' from the nay-sayers, "you can't do this", "you're idiots", "you smell" etcetera, without ever getting to hear/read the ever so uplifting "give it to me now I demand!" "I want it yesterday for **** sake", "what's taking you so long?!" and the similar lovebombing (along with the occasional "we believe in you" and "you're doing a great job", of course)..
Well, I'll just succumb to group pressure and give in to the rant (again, sigh): I want it! _________________

Excuse me if I take that with a cartful of salt.
On the other hand, if it IS true, I'll actually get to start coding. Binutils for classic Amiga seems utterly and completely broken as of not long ago. 3 hours of hard work, no working cross compiler yet. This worked out of the box just a few years ago. So I cannot but hope it is so _________________ This weeks pet peeve: Using "voltage" instead of "potential", which leads to inventing new words like "amperage" instead of "current" (I, measured in A) or possible "charge" (amperehours, Ah or Coulomb, C). I agree that the 'right kind of impatience' is certianly encouraging. It shows you are eager and supportive.
OTOH, people dredging up 'it was promised for such and such, then again later, then...' (when of course it has never had a proper release date given), whilst a perfectly natural statement of dissapointment doesn't help anybody - it doesn't make the person feel any happier and doesn't encourage the developers either, IMHO. _________________ Doing stupid things for fun... |

True. Though, that's why there are filters! Match any of the following: Sender contains - moron OR Subject contains - promised release date?!?!?!?!?!

I don't think it'd be all that impossible to distinguish the actual supporters from the prove-me-wrongs, and also from the usual bickerers, and just ignore the latter. Even though I guess the actual supporters probably could balance on the edge of annoyance at times. _________________

| Let them perfect the code as much as possible, so that there are no problems. Remember this will be the code base to future releases, they can't change some design choices without compatibility problems in the future. _________________

While I must admit to never having seen that actual phrase used against someone, with all the personal slandering going on in some parts of the "community" I fear that this might be a direction we're headed. (And on some occasions, one might argue that this line has been crossed already)
Surely I'm not the only one who's noticed the fact that in some cases, this is the level of maturity some discussions tend to stoop down to?
Though, fortunately, it seems that we don't really get that problem here at aw._________________

| I think that the 9-10 year AmigaOS+Hardware interval has managed to TOUGHEN-UP the Diehard Amiga Owners!
Most of us (in that category) have grown thicker-skin . . . . we've been through a Computer-User Boot-Camp (or Basic & Advanced military Training)!!
The STRONGER stick with it! Learn suitable responses to criticism!
The WEAKER turn to PCs, become Flamers - Trolls - or "OnLine-Insane"!
~~ But along with that toughening-up, we probally reject Political-Correctness, and have a firm resolve to stand-by our point of view! IF, We have the strength, determination, fortitude (etc) to stick-up for the Amiga against frequent calls (from unbelievers and Turncoat-Amigans) to "Let IT DIE!" . . . . Then we also deserve a measure of respect, and the right to hold our OWN opinions EVEN, if those opinions should differ from Amiga Public Spokespersons, and Forum Moderators!
~ ~ ~ For, as DieHard Amiga Users, for Boing's Sake . . we're earned that right! . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . -PS- To the worthies who labour to bring the AmigaOS4 to fruitition- "We have patience! We're rather have it late & RIGHT, than Right-Now but Flawed." _________________ -vortexau, who's A1 XE-G4 remains at half-RAM !
