Im sure most agree with me that the default theme could need a
refreshing touchup.
The colour scheme is ok, but the whole theme is too dull.
All that is needed to really freshen this theme up is to
apply a slightly shiny look it, just like this:

Shiny/glassy gui example

What do you guys think?

@all

Ahem, dont look at the whole theme, i just mean the glassy
effect on the window border

An effect like that using the default os4.1 colors, cant
you envision that?

No, everybody does that "shiny" look, even on my mobile, ... noway !
It has to be unique.... you have to recognize the Amiga straight away...

My only problem with default os 4.1 looks is the amidock and icons. They just look somewhat outdated compared to modern systems.

I did the above in 2006 prior to "OS4 goes gold" to try to tie that phrase to the theme. One difference...Window made active would instantly go brighter, while inactive windows would go darker. Same principle applied to the drag bars, which would become brighter while dragging. I made this in 8-bit on an 8-bit WB screen. I'm sure it would be better with 32bit, but everyone hated it, so....YAAP - Yet another abandoned project.

I could avise you to look at http://amitheme.amiga-ng.org/themes.html

Many nice themes created by Sinirsus. The site must be translated in English too but clicking on images can give you an idea of the work accomplished. You can also download themes and install them (installation scripts ans available in Englis, French, German, Spanish and Italian).

I quite like it as well, but everyone has their own likes and dislikes.

Indeed, I've always liked the default theme.

@Restore2003

I've seen something on the web last week.
Someone is trying to make a new default theme.

Found it!

Isn't the Zami theme (which is kind of "official") similar to what you're looking for? You can see it here: Screenshot

Also i believe something similar is in the AmiKit Collection...

Didn't know about K-L's site thou, looks good!

Petrol's theme looks like the Energy Blue theme from XP Media Center, which i prefer over XP's default blue theme... anyhow on my XP machines i always install Zune or Royale Noir/Blue themes all of which i like a lot. You can see them here: Wikipedia page

It could be a little bit more shiny/glassy maybe.

I was toying with GUI prefs at one night and got this look of buttons (accidently):

I like it actually.

@petrol

yep the entwickler-x theme is cool, they really thought about making it usable and nice looking, it is far better then the default theme, but I still donnot like shiny skins and buttons should "dropdown" instead of "jumpforward" (looks more like Linux...).

But concluding... An revolutionary skin would be great, think the new Icons are going this way, maybe someone can tune the rest... too make it look UNIQUE !!! Maybe people can select "Amiga theme" on Win 7 ...
