| This thread is here to contain a list of any known solutions to problems encountered with AmigaOS 4.1 Update 1 on any supported platform.
CD boots into a white screen with no installer on a MicroA1 Disable the rear USB sockets by unticking it in the Prefs/UBoot program or using the UBoot shell, typing the following:
setenv usb0_enable 0 saveenv
Credit: SOFTISSOFTWARE, whose
Dragging windows are slow You can use a 16bit screen resolution.
OpenGL games have a slower framerate There is a bug when clicking "Save Monitor" in the ScreenMode preferences. Change INTERRUPTS=YES to INTERRUPT=YES in the .info file applicable to you in DEVS:Monitors
Custom screens open with the wrong resolution Remove and re-add the screen, or set the screenmode in Screen utility. Sometimes "Apply: Never" is not respected after you have fiddled with Monitor preferences.
AmiDock's separator bar is black Change your transparency to lower than 100%.
AmiDock is not fully transparent even when set to 100% This is due to running a 16bit screenmode. There is no current solution.
Window drop shadows do not appear on 16bit screens No current solution.
System freezes after a few minutes of inactivity This may be due to the BoingBall screen blanker no longer having a valid screenmode configured.
Ringhio eats all memory rapidly with off-screen window dragging disabled No known solution except to re-enable off-screen window dragging
Credit: Tomppeli
TZ/TZONE vars have the incorrect information Untick "Use locale preferences" in the "Timezone" prefs.
usbprinter.device requires the printer be switched on to display printer settings with printer.device Programs that access the printer settings from printer.device cause system requesters and small messages on a white background on the screen if "usbprinter.device" is set as the port device in Printer Prefs and the printer is turned off.
The solution is to revert to usbprinter.device 52.8.
Credit: Xenic
Changing or reordering the monitor modes in the monitor icon in DEVS:Monitors seems to change the MODEIDs and programs like IBrowse (other MUI apps?) that save the MODEID can crash or fail to open on the configured screen after the monitor mode settings are changed.
The problem is easily fixed by changing or deleting program prefs. Just be aware you may encounter some problems when you change the monitor settings (especially changing the order of the modes).

| @MickJT The INTERRUPTS problem seems to be not present in all ISOs, at least not in the one for AmigaOnes. I have just checked my Radeon tooltype and it's spelled right.
EDIT: ok, the problem appears only when editing the Monitor settings under Prefs/Screenmode, it does indeed save the tooltype as INTERRUPTS here as well.

For the MicroA1 problem it is important, that the optical drive is plugged in as "Primary Slave".
There is a guy who uses the onboard 44pin 2,5" IDE for HDD and 40pin 3,5" for optical drive, and he has problems, too.
For me, it is working now even with a SII0680, as long as I plug my optical drive into primary channel as slave.
There are problems with other drives as secondary master, too. Neither it works with a HDD connected as secondary master, nor is it working with a second optical drive as secondary master. I managed to boot up with a HDD connected as secondary master, but my system reapers randomly then. Without use of the secondary channel, all works fine.
Btw., some guys with A1XE/Peg2 should check this particular problem, too, as I strongly believe that this problem is not restricted to the MicroA1 only.
I may find time today to check, if it is possible to use a second HDD on the onboard IDE as primary master. I will keep you informed.
Regards

| A bug I have discovered today: Compositing doesn't like auto scrolling screenmodes. Try setting a screenmode larger than the fisical one, eg. 1280x2048 on a 1280x1024 screen, with auto scrolling activated. The shadows of the windows will be rendered incorrectly, and compositing seems to be working in software mode (=slow) when moving items in the lower part of the Workbench, i.e. after the 1024 physical height. After switching back to standard sizes. everything works as it should.

On my A1XE I have this setup:
- primary master: boot HD - primary slave: another HD - secondary master: DVD burner - secondary slave: empty
I had no problems in installing the Update, no freezes at all. Perhaps incorrect settings inside UBoot (f. ex. interrupts settings) might be the cause.

thats not always correct for all setups. it is controlled by the uboot variables
a1ide_conf=2010
my Config says:
From first number to the left
2, Unit 0, has CDROM 0, Unit 1, disabled 1, Unit 2, HD 0, Unit 3, disabled

Interesting... I checked UBoot variables and all is right. Interrupt settings are ok. Could you try without the primary slave HDD connected? I ask because I want to see this problem being sorted out.
@NutAboutAmiga:
Could you revert your setup, so that the CD drive is secondary master? |

What should I make it say? I could just replace it with "Place the optical drive on the internal IDE controller and find which position works for you" ?
I will be back in 12 hours or so!

SATA is a different beast here... the problems are for PATA IDE so far, i.e. VIA onboard IDE or SII0680 IDE.
So, please dont be upset if I say that you cant help with it very much, except if you have some PATA drives to test with the onboard IDE controller on a MicroA1.
I investigated a bit further and it is quite clear now that SATA controllers dont make such a trouble with the Micro. If anybody encountered those boot problems using a SII3112, please state here.
Regards

| @MickJT I noticed that window shadows are not shown when on 16-bit screens. Just in case anyone wonders why they can't see them! _________________ Author of the PortablE programming language. It is pitch black. You are likely to be eaten by a grue... |

Well, on Windows you don't get any composting in 16 AFAIK. So, be happy that you only lose the shadows with AmigaOS.

I have to inform you that we found a possible cause for the boot lockups on MicroA1.
MicroA1 users should DISable rear USB (or front USB, at their wish), if they have the boot problems described earlier. This is a quite sure solution, many MicroA1 users with the boot problem checked this and it works!

Ringhio doesn't work and it eats up all memory if Off-screen window dragging is disabled in GUI prefs. Can anybody else confirm ? Last edited by Tomppeli on 16-Jan-2010 at 11:59 PM.

| How to shift SETTINGS from AOS 4.1 SAM beta to AOS 4.1 upd 1 ???
Which files can I just copy over from AOS 4.1 beta SAM to upd.1 Installation ?
1) Prefs drawer contents (except executeables) ? 2) Kicklayout ? 3) Keymap files ? 4) SS and User SS ? 5) Internet/Network prefs ? 6) something else ?
If you know a quick answer, thanks... saves time trying it out !

| @MickJT The usbprinter.device insists on having the printer turned on when a program accesses the printer.device to pull in the settings. Programs that access the printer settings from printer.device cause system requesters and small messages on a white background on the screen if "usbprinter.device" is set as the port device in Printer Prefs and the printer is turned off. It doesn't happen if the port device is set to "a1parallel" device with no printer attached. Prior to the update, I couldn't change the port device to "usbprinter.device" unless the printer was on but everything worked fine with the printer turned off after the "usbprinter.device" was added to Printer Prefs. This bug is reproducible by setting Pagestream to use the "Preferences" printer with usbprinter.device set as the port device in Printer Prefs. Start PageStream with the printer turned off and there is a flurry of requesters and little USB messages.
EDIT: Problem solved by reverting to previous usbprinter.device (v52.8). Last edited by Xenic on 19-Jan-2010 at 03:19 PM.
