Hi all!

Spent most of today working further on my new website for the Amiga community.

Still a lot of visual graphic problems to fix, but its come along way over this weekend.

Really hard work though not having an Amiga myself (yet!), trawling the internet for images is time-consuming - it would be great to have an Amiga myself to speed up this process.

In the future I want to have a complete section of video tutorials on how to use an Amiga - imitating http://www.apple.com/findouthow/mac/ to some degree.

Aminet aminet aminet - I haven't looked at it to be honest as there seems to be zero screenshots! Is there are a comprehensive list somewhere of applications that work fully on OS 4.1u2? I am guessing not, so feel free to name a few here *shouts* with links!

Look forward to your feedback ladies and gents.

Please check out my progress so far:

www.uploads.beaverpromotions.co.uk/amiga/index.html

PS: Requires CSS Browser

@djrikki

Looks like a great start so far.

There should be a few people on here that can supply you with better images of the Sam and X1000 hardware.

I think you need links to dealers under a 'where to buy' section.

I too would like to see video tutorials and hosting them in one place is a good idea.

Hyperion appears to still own amigaos4.com so maybe they should use your site there.

@djrikki

Everyone is a critic, but let me give you few items to think about :

* Dark gray on black background is no-no. It's very hard to read.

* Big fixed background with big container box thrown over makes your page feel sluggish on any computer that can't push pixels. I'm testing it on my old workstation and scrolling is killing me.

* I haven't seen any longer text on your page, I have a suspicion that you didn't test it just yet. You should because I see some readability problems in your future (and black background, it's really hard to read long text with white-on-black combo, trust me, I'm a console guy)

* Leeegalise, yes, you should get green light from interested parties. And maybe a press pack because images you have there are not really fitting. Second thing, you're linking "Firefox" to The Brothers home page. Firefox has very strict rules about using their brand name (it will be relaxed with release of Firefox 4.0). Consider renaming that to proper name.

* WTF, man? Why there's no Amigaworld on your list of popular pages? I know AW is breeding places for trolls like me, but skipping is just wrong wrong! I would understand you not linking to Moo, but Amigaworld and Amiga.org should be there.

* I would really prefer to read your short description of sites you're linking to. Showing them running of Amiga is fine, but you can't solve all your content problems with JavaScript gallery.

Other than that I applaud your work. It's far better to do something for Amiga than sit online and argue with me about mobile computing. And if you'll pull video tutorials I will tip my hat off before you, sir. I've been trying to do something like that (more practical than Apple's marketing materials) for UNIX/terminal lovers/users. I failed so hard that government started stimulus pack for morons like me.

Last advice: if your future work won't work with current design do not try to retrofit it. I know it's hard to convince yourself that something you put effort in is wrong, but being critical will make your work stand tall.

Good luck!

* Dark gray on black background is no-no. It's very hard to read.

-- Hmmm, see what you mean. The computer I developed the site on renders the grey differently to the machine I am on at the atm. (same browser, different mac).

* Big fixed background with big container box thrown over makes your page feel sluggish on any computer that can't push pixels. I'm testing it on my old workstation and scrolling is killing me.

-- Yeah needs some work.

-- Some of the images are acting as placeholders atm. The linkage is irrelevant as I am not personally involved in the development of Timberwolf so its okay to call a spade a spade. Can be easily altered if I get requested to do so from parties involved.

* WTF, man? Why there's no Amigaworld on your list of popular pages? I know AW is breeding places for trolls like me, but skipping is just wrong wrong! I would understand you not linking to Moo, but Amigaworld and Amiga.org should be there.

Yeah I am asking for the community's help on this. The images in the popular section aren't ideal check out the white border and shadow. Ps. spot the small icon running along the bottom? :)

* I would really prefer to read your short description of sites you're linking to. Showing them running of Amiga is fine, but you can't solve all your content problems with JavaScript gallery.

-- Take the popular community page, I hope to tweak the gallery so it display the 'i' text on page load.

* It's far better to do something for Amiga than sit online and argue with me about mobile computing.

-- Can't agree more.

* Last advice: if your future work won't work with current design do not try to retrofit it. I know it's hard to convince yourself that something you put effort in is wrong, but being critical will make your work stand tall.

I am open to all ideas. :)

Need 4 screen shots of each of these applications.

Resolution: 1280x1024, nothing else on screen just the application in a stretched window. DEFAULT AmigaOs 4.1 windows.

CinnamonWriter

Point Rider

MUIBase

NoWinED

GIMP

AmigaAmp

DvPlayer - DONE

HD-Rec

Frying Pan

AmidPDF

WarpView

AmiTwitter (http://sourceforge.net/projects/amitwitter/files/) - can't find a way to contact developer :s)

If you have any doubts what I am after check out the page they will be included on:

www.uploads.beaverpromotions.co.uk/amiga/apps.html

Ps: Thanks to vidarh for his table of 'best' amiga apps I was looking at earlier today.

PPs: Remember I am currently an ex-amigan so I can't 'just do it myself'.

@djrikki

Great work, it's nice to see a site like this and I hope you can start fleshing it out a great deal in the future! I'll agree with what Opi said about the grey on the black background. On my calibrated monitor it's quite readable, but on my non-calibrated LCD it's not so good and I can see it making ppl quit after a short while. Also, I have a broken image in the main page just above the "Learn all you need to know..." line.

If I find the time some day I'd like to write an article or two for you, but don't hold your breath! Have too much to do on my current projects as it is...

@Daedalus

I lighten the grey on black already back when it was originally commented on heh.

The broken image you are probably referring to is for me to drop the site's logo which I haven't decided whether I am completely happy with yet.

LOL, I guess it shows just how far out some people's set-ups can be colour-wise

I need something testing on AmigaOS/others.

If you sign up to the HTML5 YouTube beta programme on:

http://www.youtube.com/html5

Do the test videos on the URL below playback for you at all?

http://www.uploads.beaverpromotions.co.uk/amiga/tutorials.html

Thanks in advance.

See post #9.

I can only assume AW users don't have a PrtScr key.

Guys really need your help... google images gives me no images I can use... os4depot has unsuitable images containing mac, windows and gods knows what copyrighted images, some screenshots aren't in english or worse still refers another os.

Instead yapping about amiga.com website, how about some productivity around here!

Please upload your images here or amigans it doesn't really matter where you upload, photobucket is fine.

Starting to look better, but need more application screenshots I can actually use.

Correcto mundo. Further updates made to the site if anyone cares to check it out and provide feedback. Still got some outstanding issues on the Media page at screen resolutions under 1280 wide atm hoping to resolve before I get a domain name and a proper launch.

Oh and quick dj mix I did back in July one saturday afternoon... I think the filename says what to expect. Apologies for the quality was quickly mucking about in NI Traktor Studio.

Looking for someone who knows how a bit about the basics of setting up a bespoke search engine for a website.

I am thinking relationship databases, (my)SQL and everything that goes with it. I have limited experience in OpenOffice for creating the foundations of a database and thats all.

PM sometime if you think you can help. Back monday of next week, will catch up with the forum then. Bfn.
