| Amiga should learn from Volkwagon's success in revamping the Beetle.
GO RETRO!!!!!
This is the world premiere of the new Amiga XE 1000.

Good designs never die. What's in your garage?
What do you think?

With polishing i think that could be quite a nice looking case. Personally, i'd revert to the old italic Amiga logo, and checkmark for the front panel, and slightly smaller. Is that a CD/DVD slot on the front? I know you're going for retro, but i'd really prefer a tray drive, for two reasons. One, I just prefer them to the push-slot CD drives, and two you could buy cheap OEM drives and change the faceplate.
I love the buttons and LCD on the front. I'm not a big fan of laptop-style keys, but if they are translucent, but frosted, and backlit with a blue neon, I can live with them ;) _________________ Playstation Network ID: xeron6 |

Didn't you notice the width of that slot in the front? Unless BigBen thinks we should all go back to 5.25" disks, i think thats a clue _________________ Playstation Network ID: xeron6 |

I doubt very much that Amiga will go back to the old italic Amiga logo and the picture was intended to portray a new machine with a retro touch. I will probably put my A1 in my existing A1000 and maybe try this as a case mod with my spare A1000.
After trying various DVD/CD face plates, nothing really looked right in the A1000 design sense, so I decided to extend the floppy drive bay instead which I think captures the style of the original rather well. Also the image is of a pretend new ready-built machine, and not just a case as such, although I'd love to build one.
I don't see it as a system where you are switching OEM components like on PC clones for instance. Just as I wouldn't see you doing that with floppy drives in your A1000, A500, A600 or A1200. I tried that on my spare A1000 and it looked horrible. Can you use OEM parts on iMacs?
The reason for the laptop keys was to denote the small footprint of the machine, which I see as actually being smaller than the original A1000. It is smaller as I was going for a multimedia device, like a hifi component, thus the keys on the front for play, rewind etc. It shouldn't be much bigger than a PS2 for instance. Also the keyboard has to fit in the garage under the desktop case itself, as you probably already know. Nicely stowed out of the way when its either on your desk or sitting on your shelf. I would like the keyboard to be radio, as well as the mouse. Hmmmm. I left the mouse out of the image..... Expect version 2 soon.
The case was intended to look like the titanium Macs but the image came out blue rather than silver and all my attempts to alter it look weird. I may give it another try for version 2.
The blue around the keyboard and all the case itself are intended to be glowing blue when the machine is on. It would be fairly easy to do with those light cable kits that case modders use. I did consider glowing keys, and I agree its a cool idea, but those kind of keyboards kind of look more gimicky and I wanted the machine not to appear totally like a toy and look at least a little conservative, like the original. And anyway as I said I was intending for the keyboard to be a standalone radio keyboard. Look at me...I'm arguing over the design of a vapour machine.
If you really need a gimick I might consider making the Amiga Bounce ball spin as well. hehe.
Thanks for your comments.

HEY, THAT EXCELLENT!!!! THANKS... I just want to put a DVD logo like they all have on the front and of course it needs an eject button.
OMG.....And you even color shaded the Monitor and replaced the logo.

Now that is one hell of a cool case!
Just think of how cool one of those with a ”A1 would be. Of course a A1-XC mobo should fit in it, but isn't it to thin for a AGP card?
