| Hi,
Now I nearly have my hands on the developer release (cheers to all involved), I wonder what the timetable is for the missing bits? From what i`ve read here`s my deduction:-
altivec support - Finished but not released yet
ide dma drivers - Finished but not released yet
usb stack - up and running but still problematic , not clear if it supports more than just mice and keyboards ATM.
Native graphics system - from hints around here a week or so ago i`d say this is now working but there`s plently of testing to be done.
JIT 68k emulation - working for testing purposes but far from ready enough to release
SNAP graphics - as I understand it the authors need to port it to LInux PPC before Hyperion can port to OS4, so I guess this is still some way off
Floppy support - I guess this is a spare moment project like altivec
Warp3D - being ported to PPC ATM , i`m not clear whether 68k version works
This is just my best guess, anyone in the know want to put me right?
Have I missed anything?
Cheers |

Altivec, IDE DMA: Yes.
usb: Supports Mice, Keyboards, mass storage (usb sticks, flash card readers, most modern cameras), HID devices (joysticks, pads, steering wheels, AmigaInput driver in the works).
SNAP: The system already runs on LinuxPPC and the AmigaOS 4.0 port has already begin.
Floppy: Almost finished.
Warp3D: Ported and functional. The reason it isn't released yet is mostly a crash when flushing the library, and the fact that old 68k program scannot use it yet due to the lack of a 68k jump table.
Native graphics system: In alpha testing for the developers. Mostly done, but needs a bit of polish to go off into beta test.
JIT: Mostly functional using the apprunner. What doesn't work is automatic starting of applications. Going to be tackled soonish.
Timetable for all the above:
Or rather, when the individual bits are done. _________________ Seriously, if you want to contact me do not bother sending me a PM here. Write me a mail |

Hmmmmm......that looks very good. With that list done, a real release of OS 4 looks like to be possible at the end of this year.
I hope there is also time for optimization like assembly optimized math libraries.
Can't wait for the real release too. I bet it would be fantastic playing games on the A1.
EDIT: Now where's that 1,4 GHz G4 processor module. _________________ AmigaOne-XE G3 OS 4. A4000 PPC A1200 PPC |

So I guess that the IDE-driver will be released in an upgrade on your page soonish?
I think that DMA and Altivec are important for developers. |

Works fine here - if you're having problems for some reason, getting SAY to say "I find your lack of faith disturbing" will probably have a similar effect
@Rogue
Great - things really sound like they're starting to all come together nicely for the final release _________________

AmigaInput: Calibration GUI for Analog Sticks (currently in works), Drivers for Amiga Classic need some updating (no big issue, though), USB Driver still in works

All sounds great. I trust your last line means that as pieces become stable the patches can be downloaded from your site???
I hope so.

| Good job on all of the work, Hyperion! It's great that things are progressing so well. Any chance of USB support becoming an update for the developers' prerelease anytime soon? I use a USB mouse, and it would be convenient to not have to dig out my PS/2 adaptor. ;3 |

This sound very nice indeed!
But I kind of got stuck on this: Quote:
Native graphics system: In alpha testing for the developers. Mostly done, but needs a bit of polish to go off into beta test.
|
Still in alpha??? What does that mean?? Is this the P96/Intuition thing that we have heard is 95% done for 2 years? (no offence, just sounds a bit wierd in my ears as the pre-release is actually here (almost anyway))._________________ - Don't get fooled by my avatar, I'm not like that (anymore, mostly... maybe only sometimes) > Amiga Classic and OS4 developer for OnyxSoft. |

It means that there is no beta yet for the beta testers. It's in a state where the guy responsible says on the developer mailing list "BTW, I have uploaded x to the developer site, please test".

No. Intuition and P96 are separate things, and don't have anything in common. Intuition is native since quite some time, but P96 only turned PPC recently._________________ Seriously, if you want to contact me do not bother sending me a PM here. Write me a mail |
