The drawers of your first link are SUPER COOL! The second ones are good, but the first...
Is Virgola going to work on other Amiga icons to complete an icon set? _________________

They both look great, But the first set looks Too Childish.......kinda like toys. And they look too rendered if that makes sence.
I hope he keeps trying..........maybe adds a little texture like on SpiderMans costume in the movie (the blue parts) That would look cool!

| Now I think the wooden one realy rocks ! They all look good, but the wooden one..... Would be nice to see a complete icon set based on these. Also it would be interesting to see stacked (double) drawers like the OS3.5/9 ones, I got kinda used to them.

I dont think there will ever be an icon set that everyone will like. It's a matter of taste. The default one can be a bit simple and there are many talented artists that can come up with themes and variations later. _________________ Trust me. I'm a doctor. |

I know exactly what you mean, the default MOS icons suffer from the same problem. Complex images increase the amount of effort needed to recognise them, and scale very poorly. The best high/true colour icons design-wise are the MacOS X icons, look great, but are hugely functional.
I still think a good update (larger, high/truecolour, alpha channel) to Glowicons (especially if a calculated glow could be added) would be very benifical to AmigaOS. Lorraine design's Glowicons Revolution Classic 3.5 show how good it could be. |

The "problem" with the first set is that they are too flat and very wide. I don't like it. The other set is nicer IMO. |

I was thinking of an icon looking very much like that one today!
Are you reading my mind?
It began with me thinking of the old drawers from AOS 3.x. Then I thought of how a newer version would look like and then how a white version of a glowicon would look like and there it was. But I thought of a PNG-version, like the classics from Mason and it was *very* similar to your icon.
Scary.... |

i agree people have different tastes. however the initial icons must be of a sufficiently high standard to if not impress newcomers, then at least satisfy them.
i'm sorry to say but the current 'poll' icons are a regression from what already is an outdated look for amigaOS.
there was an external site which reviewed the current icon look and im sure many people remember how these were ridiculed.
don't kid yourselves... the world outside amiga land must be convinced. you guys are die hards which can tolerate anything that is thrown at you, and have been conditioned into accepting the current appearance.
the rest of the world isnt so forgiving. it's (very much needed) constructive criticism.
win3.1 icons evolved into an improved win95 , which evolved into 98 and the current crop of XP icons. the same goes for mac's OSX (especially OSX).
amigaOS has done the same but seems to be lingering in a stale icon appearance of late, and quite frankly, judging from the poll icons, the icon quality is getting worse, not better.
dpaint gradients for the drawers and especially drawer handles is not good enough these days. |

| oK, I feel like I need to elaborate on one of the icons shown here. It is part of an upcoming set that I've been working on for a while, they are made in svg so they can be any size you like really.
The drawer one shown at the link in this thread is a polished one added colors and experimenting with a double version made by Herewegoagain IIRC.
Here's the original plus some others in the same style:

You are correct. That second link is mine, and the drawer was inspired and based upon your drawer icon. I've done a bit of additional stuff which can be seen below.

See the full set (so far) here.
This is really time consuming stuff people... trust me. I've never done an icon set before, but once you start, it can consume hours of your time.
BTW nicomen, I love the look of those icons... they are very slick and professional. Mine look more "home made", but I think there is a place for them as well. And Gadgetmaster was right, icons are subject to individual taste.
Oh yeah, these icons are larger than the standard stuff, and that will make them good for people who don't like icons that "dissapear" in higher resolutions like 1280X960 or 1600X1280. It should also aid anyone who cannot see smaller icons well (unexpected bonus!)....
