| Hi!
After waiting for over an hour for AmiPDF to display a cetain page in a "difficult" pdf-file I launched SysInspector and to my surprise I found AmiPDF in this list! As SysInspector is 68k it should not be able to see OS4-native programs, right?? SysInspector was also able to remove AmiPDF without any problem. I did not expect this so my question is: Is AmiPDF not PPC-OS4-native in OS4-pre or what?? I was fairly certain it was... _________________ - Don't get fooled by my avatar, I'm not like that (anymore, mostly... maybe only sometimes) > Amiga Classic and OS4 developer for OnyxSoft. |

I also found AmiPDF unacceptably slow on large files. The ghostscript version works much better. I don't know if it's emulated or ppc, but it is much faster.

One program that has seen a tremendous speed boost is AmiPDF. The new PowerPC version of AmiPDF is, depending on input, up to 60 times faster than the original version on the prerelease. |

AmiPDF has now been updated and uses newlib.library which has given it a massive speed increase (very large documents loading in under 5 seconds or so), I have no doubt that it will be available when the updates are released!

The latest version is much faster. It will probably be in the update... _________________ Thomas, the kernel guy

No. There is no difference between 68k and PPC tasks. _________________ Thomas, the kernel guy

Note that the clib2 library has since been optimized and is just as fast as newlib.library now as far as I/O and memory handling are concerned. Just tested the latest clib2 last night and it is moving along nicely now.
@Deniil715 AmiPDF on the OS4-PR is PPC. Sometimes, emulation isn't the bottleneck... _________________ ExecSG Team Lead |

That is great to hear. The first time I tried using AmiPDF, I gave up and booted up linux and read the documents there. It almost seemed sacreligious doing so. |

I have used AmiPDF on a number of occasions and have not noticed it being slow. As a matter of fact I was quite pleased with it
( mind you, I'm easily pleased :) _________________

| To show if a program is PPC og 68k native you can use my little shell program called list68k which can be found on www.os4depot.net in the utility/shell folder.
Best regards, broch

only "probably"?
well, ben told at amiwest that you aim to release the update at end of august at latest. do you still don't know what will part of the update? any problems with some of the development? or can you give us a more detailed list here?
sort of a status update of the current beta and "prerelease 2nd edition" would be really appreciated by all of us i think.
thanks in advance and byebye... _________________ Michael Merkel (Michael.Merkel@gmx.net Home) Member of Amiga-Freunde Pfalz, OS4 Welt |

EntilZha isn't in a position that requires him to know what goes or not. It's not up to him. Or atleast that what has been told before. So it doesn't have to mean that the content scope isn't frozen already just because EntilZha is a bit unsure.
There's a possibility of it not being frozen, but using a "probably" from EntilZha to draw that conclusion is a bit of a stretch.

See above. I have no clue about the project as a whole. I'm just the kernel guy _________________ Thomas, the kernel guy
