Hi!

I just recieved my SIL680 Card and installed it. After setting the UDMA modes in UBOOT I tested the speed.

But the A1 freezes after copiing several Mega of Data. I.e. when I want to copy a 100MB ISO to ram the progressbar goes very fast to 34% and then it halts. The CPU-Clock also halts and I can do nothing. After some seconds the complete system freezes...

Whe I start Quake its the same...

No grimpreaper appeared...

Whats wrong?

@Micha1701

You could always try a serial debug if you have another machine, otherwise check some of the following?

UDMA cables.
Drive connections.
Drive jumper settings.
Card sitting properly in PCI slot.
UBoot Vars.
OS4 Installation (some people have re-installed).
CPU Cooling.
CPU Voltage.
General Cooling.
PSU Power Supply.

We really need a FAQ to solve common problems. (I'm not volunteering here! ;-D ).

Cheers,

Bean.

CPU? Voltage?

Ide Cable? Are you sure that you are using DMA cable? There is a topic in the A1 owners forum.

Which reminds me. What do I need to do to get access to that forum? I sent my A1 serial number to my dealer who told me he had contacted Dave (I think it was) at AW, but that was like a week or two ago and I still don't have permission to access the forum...

@AmiDog

Insufficiently high CPU voltage seems to be one of the common causes. Many A1's were apparently shipped with the voltage of the CPU set to low. This did not manifest itself on earlier versions of OS 4, possibly because the kernel introduced dynamic power management.

@Hyperionmp

How can I see at which voltage my G4 runs? (without measuring or checking the jumpers? is there a software solution?)

@mbilla

No, but it is easy. DIP Switchs are user friendly
