Epistula needs your help!

I know there are some extremely talented people out there so I've got a massive favour to ask of anyone who's up to the challenge, or has the creative skill to make this happen.

What I'm after is a nice, professionally created, fitting logo for Epistula; bearing in mind that this is an instant messenger application for AmigaOS.

I am willing to pay for the right logo, either with cash, free registrations... whatever you want, but I would really like this logo ready for the re-launch of my application in a couple of months time.

So, if you've got the artistic skills to help me out, please show me what you're made of and send any entries to daniel@the-snakepit.co.uk.

I appreciate any help, so thanks in advance.

Regards,
Daniel

@All

Well the logo will be used for everything from the highres printable version in the manual to a 32-colourised version for use in a glowicon, with everything in between.

Aye, sorry for the lack of information in my previous post, but I think that should give you a nice 'range' to think about

@All Interested Parties

The Epistula logo competition has ended, and the victorious designer now has their logo on the new Epistula website.

Along with the logo, I've provided the old links to the software as well as released a new development tool for creating plugins.

Thanks for everyone who contributed, but alas there could only be one winner, although there was a couple of tough calls to come to the final decision.

More Epistula news soon hopefully.

Regards,
Daniel

Nice website! One note, the 'Donate' image on the page seems to be missing (dead link)

@Slash

I agree, nice logo and nice site.

It will be nice to see the site when all the pages are there - be sure to let us know.

I am intrigued by the OS4 documentation page - this is code snippets/tutorials based on your work?

Great stuff!

A boing-ball (how surprising ) and the text "Epistula 96". Doesn't look bad in any way, but where has the imagination gone? Maybe it's only me, but I'm getting a little tired of seeing boing-balls combined with a text in every "logo" (or furry female animals with huge breasts in bikinis by that Scwartz guy, for that matter), and the prefix "Ami" to almost every name. Where did the imagination go? When did the evolution stop?

Maybe you should use something more *unique*? Perhaps something that could easily be used as an icon as well? IMHO the best logos are the ones that focus on a (simple!) *shape*; the ones you can easily reproduce by drawing them on a white paper with a black pen in *five seconds* or so, and still everyone will see what it is (although it may look better in color and gradients etc). Logos like the ones for the Macromedia Apps (Flash for instance, pictured below), Adobe corporate logo, the Commodore logo, heck - even the Dell logo is kind of good in its simplicity (the Sun logo is kind of clever, but on the edge of being too complex IMHO).

ICQ has the characteristic flower, a simple shape that's always available on the system tray (and also shows its status in a very clever way). AOL Instant messenger has a similar logo, that is simple, and yet very characteristic for that app. I think Epistula needs a logo like *that* ...

(Oh BTW, what's with this "96" thing? Is that really in the Epistula name, I mean, like "Windows 95"? Or is it just "something" in the logo? I mean, I can see how this was "inspired" by some 1996 world championship event on TV or such, where the boing ball was the earth, and then the "96" was animated in the arrows direction ...)

The boingball and the 96 looks fine but i dont like the font and the 3 red waves. Too much gfx on same space. Make the font smaller and remove the red waves. Have some space between the font and the boingball

@takemehomegrandma

Now there's an interesting take on the logo. To be honest, I never even saw the '96' bit until you've just pointed it out. It's not that obvious is it? I thought of just the two arrows, meaning something like two way communication. I'll see what we can do.

The logo for the icon is currently being worked on, and will be of similar ilk to those you've mentioned, but at the same time be based on the current logo we have here.

I'm all for originality, hence why I'd "NEVER" use the prefix 'Ami' before the name of any of my applications

Thanks for your comments though, appreciated.

@takemehomegrandma and @kicko

In occasions you see 96´s As slash said "I never even saw the '96' bit until you've just pointed it out".I think that the 96 is not intentional only a side effect
