After almost 1.5 year of work on dopus5, we at the line when we want to release 5.9 version. A lot of added, fixed, changed, ported and whatever , but before release we want to test os3 and os4 versions more deeply (aros version already in tests by aros users/devs, and mos version out of release sadly, as we didn't have morphos developer currently. Test builds can be done, but some important bugs in mos builds are welknown, and we can't release it with such bugs).
So, plz, anyone who have interst in do test os3 and os4 versions of latest nighly builds at http://dopus5.org. Stress it heavy.
Just be 201% sure, that:
1. you unpack to new location 2. you don't have old dopus5: assigns in your startup scripts 3. you do not mess it with any other files from any other dopus5 installations. 4. you do not throw it in the place where was your old dopus5 installation 5. you not use old files in. 6. ONLY WHAT IN ARCHIVE. nothing else.
The things which is 100% need tests is lately added by BSzili and Xenic 64bit support for disk and files. I.e. in human language it mean support of more that 4gb+ , and in filesizes, and in all other dopus5 functions (copy, move, getsize, titles, and all the stuff) and in showing space/size of big disks and all other necessary stuff. We test/fix step by step all involved parts, but, probably some parts of it still need to be updated to 64bit support. Os3 version of course have only 64bit disks support, not dos support, but that better than nothing.
So plz! Test it heavy and report all problems , so we can fill them to our bugzilla. The main and major tests should gone to stress is all in terms of 64bit support. All other bugs also important too, but 64bit tests is must (so there will be no situation that we release 5.9 version, and then realize that something necessary weirdy fucked).

The last time I test, ( about 2 months). The only thing that fails, (but I can test more in deep) it's when I try to put more high the leng of names. The system hangs.
I try now the last version.
Thanks for your work. |

With OS4.1. Settings / Enviroment / Directories In my config, in Maximun Lenght Name, change the value then SAVE. And the system hangs.
I try with a fresh new install and works fine .
I copy my old enviroment config over the fresh install. Now the system don't hangs. But the lenght names is the same allways. Even when I change and save.
So the problem is in my config. I start from the fresh now.
Thanks
Edit 1 :
With the fresh install all works fine. I reconfigure all the settings, and works fine. Make filetypes to play mp3, ogg and flac with AmigaAmp works very well. Now I'm playing wth other files from an old CD. wORKS.

For the OS4 build it should support filenames upto 255 characters and a full path length of 4k as recommended in the DOS docs._________________ OS4 Rocks X1000 beta tester, Sam440 Flex (733)

That one will go (probably) for 5.91 or whatever it will be, because fixing 107 length its heavy work (even if it sounds easy) , and at moment we didn't find way to make it all easy-pease. For 64bit support Bszili found more or less easy solution which not requere total rewrite of milion parts , but filename length its the last "heavy" part , which while need fixing, will wait some more. But yes, sure, that must of course.

Ok, good to know
@All Plz test it in terms of 64bit support heavy, i mean: copy big directories, joing files for 10gb or something, rename, move, etc, all those basic operations.
But be sure of course you have latest nighlty builds from dopus5, and do all as i point in first post (i.e. all new, all from scratch, etc).Last edited by kas1e on 05-May-2014 at 05:09 AM.

While it was possible to add large disk and large file support without changing a lot of structures, >107 character file name support is an entirely different beast. This limitation comes from the heavy internal usage of struct FileInfoBlocks. It's not only used when the files are examined, but DOpus5 embeds it in a lot of its own structures. Removing this limitation would require a major rewrite, with a lot of changes. Last edited by BSzili on 05-May-2014 at 06:16 AM.

Excellent news! I was at the AmiGBG show last weekend and couldn't show DOpus5 because it lacked too much. So tired of Dopus4 and the stupid 2-lister limitation I had to live with for 9 years now! _________________ - Don't get fooled by my avatar, I'm not like that (anymore, mostly... maybe only sometimes) > Amiga Classic and OS4 developer for OnyxSoft. |

What is the current status of DOpus5 development? Any progress?
OS3 version of DOpus5.91 is incorporated in AmiKit 8 and can be tested very easily. Simply use MorpheuZ (located on desktop) to switch desktop to DOpus5.91. Everything is pre-installed and ready to use/test. _________________ Modern Retro Experience |
