This is taken from the CUSA forum posted by Amigatek (Leo):

Quote:
Barry s. Altman (1949 - 2012)
We are saddened by the loss of Barry S. Altman (founder of Commodore USA and designer of the C64x), who died on December 8, 2012 after a courageous, year long, battle with cancer. His passion for Commodore, his optimism and can-do attitude were infectious. He will be remembered as a man of depth, warmth and intelligence and we are privileged to have known him. Our condolences and best wishes go out to his family and friends. May he rest in peace.

Although Barry was controversial around here, I think he deserves respect in that he had a vision of the Amiga and was willing to fight for it. He obviously had a passion for the machine and his C64x case was very cool. I always hoped that he would make an A1200 replica for us Linux geeks to play with. He was passionate enough to stir things up and I'll miss him for that.

My sad condolences to Barry's family and friends.

I hope for the day we loose no one to cancer. My spare cpu cycles have been part of this project since 2004.

@Plaz

Nobody in this world should have to suffer with cancer. It's a horrible thing. I wish it was gone.

I didn't know much about Barry, only by the chat on here but anyone who tried keeping the name Commodore and Amiga alive, in any guise is now written into our history. Sad news.

Cancer is bad, makes people pass away far to early.

R.I.P. Barry.

@tommywright

You certainly have to give him credit for trying and putting up the money. For me, it was just a shame the way he did it, but that's history now.

My thoughts go to his family. They're the ones who have lost a husband and a father. Cancer is a nasty way to go and there are so many different kinds. I just hope he went painlessly.
