Although OS4 pre-release should be in our hands before the end of the month.

Amigbg 2004 quick report : Comment 5 of 5 Posted by Don Cox (Trusted user) on 03-Apr-2004 21:07:43 The other interesting announcement was that the AOS4 pre-release CD will come with a serial number on the packaging. Don't lose it because it will give access to a web site from which updates and demos can be downloaded

Now let me see.
The pre-release is coming, and the 50 megs of compressed SDK material is included.
We get access via the serial number to updates -- including the optimised DMA and the graphic PPC, and no-doubt many bug fixes along the way.
The thing boots directly for installation.
Amiga Forever 6.0 will be out (announced in 24 hours) and it can boot and run from a CD without touching Windows (I have some uses for that at work). Please note just how well OS4 would fit for many such uses where Linux would be overkill and difficult.
IBM sent a rep to our Amiga do (not insiginifcant) and he announces a really big push for PPCs in all shapes and forms (perhaps the hoaxed PDA).
Alan Redhouse and Ben Hermans both make it very clear that they are happy with KMOS and give us a clear understanding that the current relations are all stable and the long term is yet to be worked out -- but they are soo confident.
And for all those that missed it. The microA1 is ready to go into production all they need is a customer big enough for orders in the 10,000 or more. The good thing here is the Garry Hare is just in the position to find (if he does not already have) such customers. In short, the chances are that by the end of the year the microA1 will be available and at a reasonable price.
Not bad in terms of announcements. _________________ Greg Schofield, Perth Australia |

| I take it that if a pre-release is iminent, the graphics library is now native?

That means I probably wait to December to by one._________________

I'll have to listen carefully to the recording when it is available. Ben rather carefully used past, present and future tenses when talking about the topic of the pre-release. Hence it sounded like the Picasso stuff had been or is in the process of porting, which would mean that it will not be in the pre-release but will be downloadable soon after.
However, it is hard to work out because I think he was being very careful in how he answered each particular, it could well be that the Picasso drivers have been done but not included, or may have been included -- the rest of the graphic drivers have been in PPC for some time (I have been told elsewhere).
In terms of timing of the pre-release, again he was cautious, leaving I suspect plenty of room for things going wrong at the last moment. Hence he said by the end of April as a "should", but I suspect that he may have put several weeks padding in this statement so that if things for whatever reason went really bad (a complete stuff up in production etc) they would have enough time to make the end of April.
I am an optimist, so I expect to see mine in the next two weeks (unless you are a complete and unredeemable optimist -- do not take this seriously -- in my excessive moments I expect it next Friday)._________________ Greg Schofield, Perth Australia |

Does that mean there is still a chance that it may not come out? Doug from AnythingAmiga has it to be released in late May from memory. The order for 10,000 units, is that meant to be taken that if only 8,000 units are ordered, that it will not go ahead?
Arggggghhhhhhhh, these questions are driving me nuts!
I need my MicroA1! If any businesses out there are reading Bodie_CI5's posts, please order some! I shall be eternally grateful! _________________

Why would they go to all the trouble of putting in a megarray socket, and then turn around and say you can only use G3s in it?

I cant wait to see the prices for some better than 800mhz g3 cpu modules.. would feel better if my A1 broke the 1ghz barrier.. just a psychological thing. :)

AmigaOne.biz had a µA1 running OS4(something that I don't think has been shown before) that you could play with, and after messing around a little with OS4 on it I think that I can quite confidently say that OS4 a heck of a nice OS and that the µA1 is one Really Nice Machine.
