From our old friends at AHT:

AHT RELEASES TRIBBOX

AHT's (Advanced Home Technologies) first hardware release, supported by ST Microelectronics and TU Delft (Tribler software)

Las Vegas, january 10th 2008: AHT, a new dutch set-top-box manufacturer, will release a product for the open source community called the "Tribbox". The Tribbox is a new generation set-top-box which connects the TV to the Internet. It can also be used as hard-disk recorder, for internet telephony and for digital TV. Since the product's software is released under open source license, the technology is is available for everybody to experiment with and to make new products with.

The Tribbox is based on STMicroelectronics' ST7109 HDTV single chip H264 decoder, embedding a real time Linux OS.

Tribler is developed at Delft University of Technology in cooperation with the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. They will help with supporting everybody who will use the Tribler peer-to-peer software. The Tribler Peer-to-Peer technology can be used to exchange files, movies and music and to watch Television. Furthermore, Tribler is "Social" software, which means that within Tribler you can meet your friends and taste-buddies. These related persons can help you with finding and downloading the piece you are looking for. The more you help others, the more you may expect in return.

The TU Delft is of course happy that Tribler will be used in an open-source set-top-box. "Tribler is being developed as an open platform for watching film and music in a pleasant way."

Tribbox runs Linux and is delivered with all documentation, programming guides and development software, as well as a Linux desktop distribution with many sample programs.

The Tribbox developer system is a member of AHT's ST7109 based family of business-to-business (oem) and business-to-consumer products. The first consumer product "Ariana Media Center", to be released under AHT's own "Allsii" consumer brand, will be introduced at the CES show in Las Vegas, in January 2008.

Tribbox will be available directly from AHT's online Allsii shop: http://www.allsiishop.com

More information and support for the Tribbox is available at: http://www.tribbox.com

@Drako
number6 said real products only.

I don't think "Today, Tsinghua Tongfang (THTF) announces it is previewing early prototypes of the company's planned LimePC branded 2008 personal computer line at its booth at CES." counts but then we do love to nitpick.

@Torn

Can you run Crysis, Half Life 2, Doom3, Quake4 and WOW on that?

I want one just because it's cute!

But since this is esencially an Efika 2 and Genesi cooperates with
THTF, You could run AROS on that and maybe(depending on MOSTeam)
MOS...

@TheDaddy

MorphOS is an option for these devices. The involved companies are
aware of it. To my knowledge the chances that MorphOS will meet these
devices are not too bad.
Remember *this* is the market Laire was always heading for. There is
quite some interest in MorphOS at several companies.
There are more products to come - I know of one particular that will
be definitely MorphOS based, but it isn't decided yet if it goes into
production.

Heh, 'Genesi cooperates with' is a far cry from 'this is an Efika anything,' or 'will run MOS.'
Still waiting on MOS on Efika, let alone something else right now.
Kinda neat though, depending on price.

Is this a real product at CES or just a joke / hoax?

From G4 TV:

CES 2008: Fyre’s Box O’ Porn
Among the high-tech gadgets that made its debut at CES this week was a lil’ thing called Fyre. No, not the electronics store! It's the cool, new box o' porn. The first set-top box to deliver DVD-quality adult movies on demand to home televisions. The Fyre simply has to be plugged into an Ethernet port in a broadband connection. Another plug goes into the TV, and voila.

DIY PDA from Bugs Labs.
I hope in the future they can create PowerPC based PDA.

From BBC:
"For the hobbyists out there, why not buy a build your own gadget kit? You buy a central brain and then just clip on the modules you want. For example, add the touch sensitive screen and it's a PDA, then clip a lens onto the other side and hey presto, it's a camera, or clip the lens to the same side as the screen and voila, it's a webcam. The company, Bug Labs, already make various components - in addition to the screen there's a motion sensor, a GPS receiver and a 3G modem. The idea is to let budding programmers write their own small applications to tell the central processor what to do with various mixes of pieces. For example a camera, plus a motion sensor could be a security device – put the same on the other side and you can see in both directions at once.
A camera, screen, GPS locator and a 3G modem could allow you to take photos of yourself, tag their locations, and upload them to the web whilst still on holiday."

In a way Torn is definitely right; the 5121e is a derivate/evolutionary chip from the 5200B, it is essentially a one chip computer, and since this one chip computer is exactly the same computer as the Efika2 is/will be, then it's not too erroneous to say that this is *essentially* an Efika2. The same specifications, the same drivers, etc. Furthermore, the basis for the hardware development began with the EFIKA (which has always been and will always be an e300 reference platform), and the software is based on the Efika project #109.

We are waiting for MorphOS2.0 *period*. This has nothing to do with "waiting for MOS on Efika"; MorphOS2.0 is not finished yet, but when it is, it will have Efika support built in.

Personally, I am most fund of the ThinPC. I think the future for Thin PC's is wide open "thanks to" global warming and the upcoming need to reduce power consumption.

And then the TV of course! I mean, just think of it: a 42" TV in your living room based on MorphOS with its 3D accelerated GUI (and 3D effects for Picture in Picture, EPG's, and OSD), connected to your home network through the Ethernet (and Internet of course), accessing media on your wireless devices through WiFi and Bluetooth. Think of the possibilities, like running Amiga/MorphOS applications like AmIRC, Sputnik, and an open API/SDK for whatever new apps any thrid party developer could think of suitable for an environment like this, and all tied together and customizable by the user through AREXX scripting! Very cool IMHO!

...as is also true for 80% or more of what's shown at CES, it's what the show is about, showing edge technology! (BTW: "Tribbox will be [is not yet?] available directly from AHT's online Allsii shop", and there it is listed with the text "This product was added to our catalog on Wednesday 17 October, 2007". So, was this product available in autumn 2007 already (not really news now then), or are we still waiting?)

Anyway, regarding the LimePC - here is an image gallery of people *using* the LimePC prototypes: Hands-on with the LimePC. A full-sized PC and a 42" LimePC-TV were also present at the show.

If only those at the Washington office (if any) realize how strong could be Amiga again, simple given some licence....

What happened to the Genesi request for a licence?

Albeit not being AmigaOS5, MorphOS2.0 is exactly what *I* want...

(With that I wanted to say: #### Amiga, who needs them?)

As the court ruled it's still valid and the judge ordered Amiga Inc to deliver. But they have happily ignored the courts ruling this far...
