I was going to visit mai.com to get some information, but the site doesn't seem to be there anymore, only some "This site is under construction" message from "SBC Yahoo! Web Hosting".

http://www.mai.com/

It wouldn't surprise me if they had gone out of business.

@nicholas

Or maybe there is just problems with their ISP or servers and that default "under construction" page is shown because of that.

Well if thats true, they must have been having problems with their ISP for a LONG time as google's cache of mai.com shows the same "under construction" page.

Same reason any company that sells half arsed products goes bankrupt, it would also avoid the lawsuit they currenlty have filed against them too.

or

Declare bankruptcy, get "bought out" by another company with no external profile, and then a few months later rename themselves back to MAI.

It happens all the time.

@mdma

"Half Arsed products", not in the slightest bit inflammatory eh?

Who do you know who declared bankruptcy then got bought out by another company?

Frankly I think you are letting things run away with you here. They may, or may not, be bankrupt. As far as I knew they were some wholly owned subsiduary of another company.

Plus the cache was generated:

"Voici la version G o o g l e de la page mise en cache de http://www.mai.com/ extraite le 15 mai 2005 02:37:43 GMT."

Im beginning to suspect that this thread was created with the intent not just to inform, but to cause a flamewar. I would hope my impression is incorrect.

Well, just look at the threadstarter

edit: I just noticed Asian1 started the exact same thread on A.org, almost at the same time as TakeMeHome

@takemehomegrandma

I thought it was a bit worrying when they had the complete board layout for the uA1-I posted on their ftp server a few weeks ago. From a quick glance one of the engineers here thought that the planes were detailed enough to use to build the board, if you had the right equipment. This was discussed at the time on Morphzone and the other usual sites.

I think the consensus was it was most likely an upset soon to be former employee but now I am not so sure.

if you go to ftp://ftp.mai.com you will get the following message:

"Welcome to the Yahoo! Web Hosting FTP server.

Why?

Because the Articia S is notorious in the industry, and people dread it like the plague?
Because they never have sold a single product (they have only one AFAIK) in volume, and chip design is expensive?
Because they have postponed their sequal, NG product which could set thing straight (the Articia P) a quarter at a time *for years*, without being able to release it?
Because they put lots of information regarding the Articia P project online on their public FTP server and left it there for a long time, information that included confidential Articia P data, the complete blueprints to the Teron Mini reference board that was supposed to use this chip, and complete archive of mail correspondence with "Socle Technology Corp", their partner in the Articia P venture?
Because "Socle Technology Corp", their partner in the Articia P venture which could have set things straight, is now suing MAI?

Nah, I would actually vote for some unpaid domain bills or DNS issues or such. We have seen that several times on other places. I heard that MAI is backed by some giant corporation (which one I don't know), and as long as their patience is big enough, MAI shouldn't be in any trouble?
