Talk about perfect timing. I just got my SAM 440 PPC Booted In UBoot Today
After swapping to 150W powered PSU.

http://cruxppc.sunsite.dk/wp/news/45

A quick update on the status of the porting toward Sam440ep

Having Crux-PPC work on Sam440ep required heavy kernel patching; CJG worked hard on the Denx tree of Linux, adding a nice voice “Sam440ep” in machine type of menuconfig, with all the needed defines for memory and pci addressing; all the remaining issues have been fixed:
# no more fp exceptions;
# solved the pci addressing being taken by inexistent flash mtd;
# adapted the rtc driver and fixed its i2c bus allocation;
# various other small fixes;
# usb now working;
# optical drive now working.

Getting USB and SATA optical devices work required disabling DMA in the SATA kernel driver; this is sub-optimal but we don’t have a better solution for this so far; anyway the Sam performs very well even without taking advantage of UDMA.

Kernel patches against the DENX kernel tree 2.6.23 are available here and mirrored here.

What is it about Amiga hardware and duff DMA disk access?

Dose this look familiar to anyone else just like the first AmigaOne's we have DMA problems and no AmigaOS4 to run on them, oh well I guess it is a real Amiga

I had thought about ordering one just now and just running Linux on it as I still have a case I purchased to put a uA1-c in put I guess I will wait and see if they can fix the disk controller support first.

@Dwyloc

Na, waiting is a waste of time. Look how long people waited for a new batch of the Old Amiga Ones and missed out, and complained for ages. Buy now, enjoy what you can and upgrade the software at will. Especially cause CRUX is Free Download and Install.

I actually applaud your effort at getting crux running on your rig.

if you want something done you pay someone to do it. But if you want it done now or properly, then do it yourself.

@meet.mrnrg

What I want to figure out is what ISO and what patches I need from the website.
Then how to install them all together to get CRUX to run smoothly on the SAM 440 PPC

It was different back then, AmigaOS4 was not ready, but it did boot on AmigaOne / A4000 hardware and it was demoed in many countries showing OS4 booting and used on the target hardware.

Back then we head the Teron board that was only designed and sold as Linux boxes, the Teron board never booted OS4,

The AmigaOne boards where sold for OS4, whit promise that AmigaOS4 pre developer cd was going to be sent out when it was ready.

What you are doing how ever is buy product whit no promise from any that OS4 will ever run on it, only some hints like “The Red One”, what does that mean?

You are taking the risk, fin by be but don’t come crying to me afterwards, I have nothing agents you buying the product, PowerPC is cool, you can build where silent multimedia box out of it, how those big plasma screen, that’s cool.

Hang on a minute.... are they saying UDMA support is only missing for optical drives, or missing for hard drives as well?

I sell my A4000TE on egay, so I can swap the system allso to Sam440ep. Have all components ready.. only the samboard is missing, do not know why I don't get an answer from Acube... waiting for weeks.
Anything is so new for me after 11 Amiga classic years. But I hope you can help me... the Sam Board has 4xSata.. do only the first 2 Sata work for Harddisk and DVD Burner? Or can I use the other 2 SATA allso for booting another Harddisk?
The Onboard Ram socket is for DDR 266 up to 512mb and not DDR2 corrrect?
I'm a musican.. and need a good Soundcard... not that onboard for recording... I have choosen a ESI Juli@ course it fit's to the equipment I have allready here in my Studio, does it work ok under Linux, can you tell me something about that? Allso a good USB Midi Device... but do not know yet which... hm I hope under Linux here is some kind of Midi Sequencer which runs under Crux....
Please allso make some kind of installation Workshop, I would be happy about that, course I never used Linux before :O))

First few things, you need to call ACube, they are a busy team, but are friendly people in Italy waiting to have a good chat with customers.

eMail is not always the best medium so please call them. http://www.acube-systems.com/

Life... If you like Private Message (PM) me with your PayPal email address and contact details and I can request that ACube Systems emails you an invoice. If you pay it gets shipped to your shipping address.

Last night I spent a lot of time setting up TFTP server so I can make Operating System ISO / Images bootable or installable from LAN. Its a lengthy process but very handy feature in UBoot.

2Gig USB Drive also was detected, but had some difficulties booting from the USB stick, not sure if it was cause of my wireless USB mouse and keyboard... So far I know wireless keyboard works.
