Has anyone bought or used the Eye Motion device manufactured by ACube? If so, can you please tell me (in very simple words) what this device can be used for? (writing an article and need to understand the application)

Thanks

TrevorD

@klx300r

I have the impression its to add the capability to have a second monitor running under OS 4.1 on a SAM Flex.

AmigaOS 4.1 on Sam440ep-Flex and EyeMotion

I'm not sure what " Proprietary hardware screen rotation" refers to. Maybe you can switch screen orientation so you can go into portrait mode on a rotating monitor?

@TrevorDick

Looking at this, it seems to be a mix of a gfx-, sound- and USB1.1 card using a MiniPCI port.

@TrevorDick

I do keep looking at that and wondering (first) if it could
be used in a desktop with a PCI to mini-PCI adaptor. Seems to
be an interesting bit of kit.

Wish I could help.

Can it be used for speeding up video editing etc. with blender maybe? Can anyone from ACube shed some light on practical uses of EyeMotion for us

Seems like a PCI card that gives you audio, video and USB 1.1 all in 1 card, probably saving you a slot. No 3D capabilities what so ever.

Probably something for the embedded market.

I am speculating as well
but it seems like a path to change the low end graphics and audio for the Sam line.
Lower cost,easier to obtain and more up to date components ?
You see the same graphics and audio specifications in the Sam 460ex.
The next step ? A Sam notebook ?

@TrevorDick

For what I understand it's a graphic/audio combo card in a mini pci form factor with 2d capabilities (no 3d of any form), hardware assisted video playback and interfaces to accept usb 1.1 devices, mpeg accelerator devices and tv encoding (aka input) devices.

Also the same chipset will be in the upcoming sam 460 as an integrated device (maybe only the audio and video part)

I find this deeply shocking, and i hope ACube see this thread. Maybe a lot of people need this device, but no one knows what it does... scary! Or who knows, maybe it is an expert-product and us "mortals" don't need it.

Trevor, I hope you make sure when the X1000 is advertised better :)

Regards
Uni

@TrevorDick

It is a mini PCI IO and GFX card, Mini PCI is used on Laptops and Notbooks ... it is not related to Sam hardware ....

There is nothing special about it, I'm just suprise what market they want to reach with it, currently they don't have a mainboard needing it.

@Arko

I think they will use this card (or chipset) with SAM460EX (there are screenshots showing OS4 on 460EX using this card instead of traditional GFX card).

Why then did Uboot 1.3.1a for Sam-Flex do the following : ?

Sam440ep-flex version:

added support for Silicon Motion 502 graphic card

I wonder why you are asking this.
You know for sure Max and Enrico. Have you tried to ask them?

Ciao
