AfterEffects. I've swapped Sam460ex with Vox's AmigaX1000... And of course - tons of new problems as usual. But this is not theme for that.

I know what I will do IF I will be heading Amiga. I think wrong people OR people with less ideas are leading.

But - no Amiga head, no prosper. I really love Amiga and I really will have to see it progress.

(btw. to me it seems freescale.com default language has changed to china... the market is there ?)

Price of the system is one thing and usability another.

If people spend their earnings from several months on a computer, they might want to do a lot with it.
Too bad current AOSNG systems are only for diehard AOSNG fans, not for everyone (or for everything).

Even when/if I get another permanent job, x1000 price is a bit too high for a normal family man (on a averagely paid engineering job, as an example), even when I consider myself a diehard fan.

But let's see what comes...

(in the meanwhile we must try to enjoy what we have... second hand HW + AOS4 or MOS+oldHW or AROS + x86 HW and those classics)


btw. when I got myself A4000, it cost me half a year earnings in 1993-1994 (evening+weekend work in a computer shop), but with it I could do pretty much anything and everything.

I agree with your statement and think that Hyperion should make it a top priority to port AmigaOS4.x to a low cost hardware solution (such as used PPC Mac computers, as they are the only sensible solution). Or they should concentrate on porting AmigaOS4.x to the ARM architecture, so it can be ported to a few of the existing MP4 players and cell phones.

Hyperion has really made a huge mistake by not concentrating on supporting lower cost hardware, so the everyday Amiga users can have a better chance to join the party.

Agree fully. My approach to any Amiga-like solution (be it FPGA, OS4, etc.) these days would be basically "Stay cheap and simple, allow for as many PCI/PCIe slots as possible". That way, you can get the motherboards out the door quickly and cheaply, spec for a reference setup, and then drivers for the various other cards people may want can come later and don't have to be constrained by the manpower in the core team.

Going for hardware that already lives out in the wild basically means your h/w dev, manufacture/delivery/etc. costs are all going to be as near to $0 as is humanly possible.

I'm certainly not rich. I sold most of my A1200 gear, my XE and various car parts and other items to afford my X1000. I'm not saying anyone can get a system the price of an X1000 but just that not all owners are rich.

I understand you, but my point is that most people don't have 3000$ for NgAmiga.
I can sell my kidney for X1000 and you will not call me rich either, but this not mean that X1000 is cheap.

I really don't get why Hyperion don't wanna money from most Mos users who have compatibile Mac hardware.

But who need 2000+ Mos-mac users at the doorstep (who know what Os4 is) when you have whole world to conquer?!? :P

Dude! I LOVED that!

Why not use Blender though? That seems like it would be so hard to do in a compositor.. but I don't know After Effects at all (I use Nuke mostly).

In Blender, you could use flat cutouts like you're doing here but then rig it with bones and IK so animation would be super fast. We did a show back in the day like that with Lightwave. One guy could animate a half hour show in just a few days.

If you ever want to know more about that technique, let me know.

Resources.
I think Hyperion can not afford to do that.
What they could do is to se a crowd funding to get money to do the port to Mac HW (ideally they should buy the work from MOS developers).

IMO: it requires more work to support old PPC Mac HW than to support new HW.
New HW is the future, Mac HW is the dead end.

If there is no company doing affordable PPC HW, the community must do it.
