@AmigaMac

Not heard of it before. I get a website for Happy Biscuit at that URL.

@AmigaMac

Hmmm.... Well it appears to be down from here as well. It is hosted by happybiscuit.com, so it's not unusual that it would default back there.

@Herewegoagain

It's odd that the site is down, I will investigate it but please be advised that the project looks increadibly unlikely to ever bear fruit.

@turkamigaman

Happybiscuit has nothing to do with the AmigaFive project. They simply provide hosting.

Like the hot air machines in the toilets... they stop blowing hot air after a period of time.

@digitaldisaster

Sad to hear that the G5 project is not likely to succeed.

Guess we need to somehow use Apple hardware to get a G5 computer and with Hyperions stance at that, it doesn't look likely to happen.

I do understand that they prefer to work on well documented platforms BTW. (just before someone begins to explain to me why..)

Anyway I can do without a G5, my G4 is plenty of power for me atm. Would like a tiny motherboard based on one of the embedded PPC's. Would be usefull and fum to play with for custom projects (and perhaps even cheap?).

Your best and probably only hope of getting a G5 Amiga is to buy a uA1c (which is totally overspecified for the job of running the sublime OS4) and to perswade as many friends and coleagues to do likewise in the hope that Eyetech can start getting some volume business going. If we can get a base of 100,000 users - this will kickstart development of s/w and hardware worthy of a G5.

I can't understand it! I've just upgraded from my A4000D 68k40 to a uA1 -which is like going from a Sopworth Camel to a MIG fighter - and you guys are hung up on silicon and MHz.

IS that what not DigitalDisaster just wrote a few posts previous to yours? (ie. "incredibly unlikely")

Actaully realize the project was not delusional. After discussions with Momentum it has been decided that unless there is some major investment in the project that it would be impossible to produce the hardware at an affordable price. To give you an idea it would cost ~$10.5m to procude a batch of 10,000 boards which could be sold at $1500 each (Remembering this project was also targeting AIX and Linux Workstation/Servers)

@digitaldisaster

Thats a LOT of money and with a community this small maybe 90% of the boards needed to be sold elsewhere.

Don't bother with Realize, he likes to troll sometimes.

Hi digitaldisaster,

!!!!

And a MB with x86 could be bought for what, $350?

Wow, if ibum treated every product they make the same way, they'd go out of business. Oh, wait, THEY DO!

But I forgot, they sell "stuff" to government, not people.

AmigaOne! AOS4.0! Seemingly, every step Amiga takes is costly, but will yet succeed!

Heh, kinda puts the whole A1/Peg undertakings in perspective (ie the barriers faced by small players in launching products into this market).

Hi Bodie,

My unwavering confidence that Amiga WILL succeed comes from the fact that, we have "the goods"*, and these investments are SMALL, even pocket change, for the mega corps like Gateway 2000, Dell, HP, Sony, Radio Shack, Texas Instruments, Wal Mart, and yes, even ibum.

AmigaOne! AOS4.0! It'll all change, overnight!!!!!!

* Watch some old Humphrey Bogart movies.
