Why is AmigaWorld SLOWER then AmigaOrg ?!

Why is AmigaWorld so slow. AmigaOrg blows the doors off AmigaWorld for speed and Web Site design. I find myself more and more going over to AmigaOrg because it is much faster and nicer then AmigaWorld. What do you guys think?

I see you joined only the other day so "I find myself more and more going over to AmigaOrg" has a meaning of what a few days?

"faster and nicer"

"faster" I can accept, it is a technical issue based on the fact that Amiga.org runs on dedicated servers paid for by Genesi whereas AmigaWorld.net shares CPU with a few other sites. This will change soon.

You may also be on a wider bandwidth route from you to Amiga.org than you are from you to AmigaWorld.net - run a traceroute and see if you can identify a poor performing site between you and AmigaWorld.net.

"nicer" is highly subjective. I was always taught to explain comments such as these in more constructive detail. A start would be - as in what?

The theme? The layout? The user interface?

or

The people? The focus?

As far as web site design is concerned, which is the only clue you have given us, both sites use XOOPS. Go figure.

First off I think the site design here is quite nice.

Second are you using a P4 by chance to browse this site as I think it's mainly optomized only for Profesional A2000 machines :) JK

Third even if it was slow and ugly here the people and the atmosphere would well be worth the half second of extra time you might have to wait for a page to come up.

You must be one of those young bucks that can't remember the days of 300bps(and that was fast) modems taking for ever to load a screen of ansi text. You'd be doing this for a while and to wait for

It's also possibly because AmigaWorld tends to have more people using it at any one time - the membership has shot up since the AOne forum opened.

(just went over to amiga.org to check - 47 guests ?? Sorry, don't believe that: there has never been that many people using it simultaneously since I joined well over a year ago)

I'd say AW.net is faster then A.org here ...

Interestingly according to the stats you joined Amigaworld.net the day before you posted.

Doesn`t give your post much credance does it?

The lengths some people will stoop down to. :(

I don't find it slow and I'm on 56k dialup.

I'd do as suggested earlier and traceroute and see what the hickup is.

As for the layout/design of AW, well I appreciate that not everyone will like it but the majority do so the majority wins, design something better and show us all, we're looking for designers you know.

Well, I agree that Amiga.org is (a lot) faster than Amigaworld.net, but the layout/design is A LOT nicer here! I think it looks much more professional than Amiga.org, and I'm usually very hard to please when it comes to web design

AW IS slower than AO by quite a bit, at least if you are on a proper connection :-)

That said, though, as someone else pointed out: what does a few seconds mean with THESE great people?

Sincerely,

-Kenneth Straarup.

On my poor old ADSL I don't really see any big difference in speed and when it comes to layout I like this better than .org.

They are both similiar from my cable connection, however, AW does tend to be a tad slower at times. Not always. I can deal with it because I like the layout (and people / atmosphere) better here.

BTW, is that Amiga2000King PKA DoomMaster???

Some time ago Amiga users donated over 1000 dollars to Amiga.org for a dedicated server. Instead the website got hosted by Amiga Inc's servers for free for a long period of time, this until Wayne decided there was a "conflict of interest".

As the website gains popularity, AW will likely also get a fast dedicated server in the future, but IMO the speed is acceptable for now. At least the current host is IMO well worth the money.

With regard to the website design, I like both website designs. Some months ago I would have agreed that AO looked a little more polished than AW, but nowadays I prefer AW's design better. But that's a matter of personal taste anyhow.

I don't see a great difference in speed, but it does vary from hour to hour.

One thing I really do like about AW is that if I decide I want to post to a thread but my login has timed out, when I've signed in, I am taken back to the same page, not just to the home page the way a.org does.

speed ? yes AO is faster, due to other hw and perhaps better connection but it´s not that slow, that you can go and have a cup of coffee. imho it´s OK.

which one looks better is individual. as i can see most peeps from AO are here, also (/me too )

therefor both have lots of pros
