Hi All

I am having a problem with my Micro AmigaOne, Basically the sound output is dull, rather muffled.

I have had plenty of experts help me out on #amigaworld basically, I have redone AHI (5.12) and installed the latest Sound driver on OS4 Depot, but, no matter if I am using AmigaAMP, MPlayer or whatever, I am unable to get my Micro AmigaOne sounding better than Paula 14bit Stereo +++ On my A1200T.

Am I the only Micro AmigaOne owner with this prob?

(Note, it's not the speakers)

Any help, or useful suggestions welcome

Thanks

@Mikey_C

Hi,

Sorry about the need to be specific:

Quote:"I have redone AHI(5.12)".....
Does this mean you have AHI version 6.2c installed?
You mentioned the latest sound driver.
Does this mean you have CMI8738 version 5.5 installed?

How is your audio connected? Which output?

Did you only recently experience this or was this always the case?

@Mikey_C
I had the same problem with a stock update 3 install. Turned out the AHI prefs prog on update 3 was incorrect.

Here is the version I have which I know works:
AHI preferences 6.0 (02/02/2005)

For reference, the version of ahi.device I have is:
ahi.device 5.50 OS4
(20.Sep.04) (C)1994-2003 Martin Blom. 603e version.

@ssolie

But you're a beta tester. Ud#3 had ahi.device v50.13, you're using v50.50, & OS4 Depot has v6.2c. I'm a little confused as to were this is going. Do we have 2 competing versions of ahi.device going?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Oops, well I said I was confused , just didn't realize how bad I was.

I was using ahi.device 5.50 & switched to v6.2c. Somehow the 5's got translated to 50's. There is no ahi.device v50.13, doh!

So the question, is v6.x going to be in OS4 final or some other version?

I need a nap!

@ssolie

Same here. Using AHI preferences 6.0 (02/02/2005). Bytes:38272

What is wrong in your opinion with using AHI 6.2c (for the device) from OS4depot?
AHI prefs file in the above archive is also 6.0 (02/02/2005) Bytes:38272

Also, where is the AHI prefs in update3. I see NO such file in the archive, at
least not in the "prefs" directory.

Best Wishes,

@Mikey_C

Have you installed the mixer with "setlevels" in either startup-sequence or in
WBStartup?

Note that the new CMI8738 driver (5.5) does not need the mixer to setlevels
anymore.

@Mikey_C

Sound output from my rear sound connector and the front sound connector on my µA1 is very different. The rear connector sound has one channel at a much lower volume than the other and the sound doesn't seem as clear. The front connector sound is much louder and clearer. I asked about this shortly after I got my µA1 but never got a satisfactory answer. I wish some audio expert would do some measurements on the 2 connectors and tell me why they are so different. Maybe the front ones are not line-level but rather for headphones or something. If A1's were not so hard to get I'd send mine back to have it checked out.

Which connectors are you using?

@Xenic

I use my rear connectors and sound is playing just fine.
Have not tested through the front ones. I'll do that when
I get home.

@Xenic

Good to see you posting here again!

There are certainly two people I would ask, if I were you.
@LyleHaze and @DaveAE.
Several of the pdf files for Micro are quite good as well.
OS4Zone at the left side of the AW front page will take you to a list of the
latest submissions. There you should see a fine article on serial debug by
@Wegster. At the bottom of the page are links to two fine pieces of information
concerning the Micro A1-C.
In addition, in the A1forum there are links supplied by GuruMeditation to
several more fine documents.

Collect 'em! Trade 'em with your friends!

Best Wishes,

Try this:
Start mixer and pull down to zero the volume of the Internal FM.
Every microA1 that I saw has "muffled" audio when this level is in high state.

@all

The new CMI driver 'requires' a new Mixer, but I didn't upload that yet, sorry. The new Mixer has an Aux slider and has no FM slider.
You should all use AHI 6.x and prefs 6.x. by the way.
If the rear output sounds different than the front output (and is mono), this is hardware related, not software related.

Crap! I just spilled a soda all over my keyboard while moving the plug to the rear sound connector for another test. The strange thing is: the rear connector seems to be working correctly now. I think those crumby little minijacks are unreliable. This doesn't help the original poster but I'm happier now

@Xenic

I believe that DaveAE has helped several posters in the thread with his comments.
So...are you saying that better audio quality can be achieved by spilling a
soda all over your keyboard. If so, we will need to update the docs.

BTW-Try the front right miniplug.(green)

If you think -this- is funny, my Toccata has - phono plug - to adaptor - to miniplug - to etc.
Stay in touch.

New Mixer 1.12 and cmi8738.audio 5.6 are now on OS4depot. Please use them together. The driver (5.5) set all volumes to max which wasn't right. Only PCM out is set to max, the others are set to 0. To change volume of CD etc., please use the new mixer.
