User "lithium" has leaked the following:

Initially I was keeping my old PowerUp system for OS4, but since MOS for PUP is out I don't see any point in waiting any longer for OS4 for that board. There is no benefit in OS4 compared to MOS.. Only if there will come some special features. Currently I do not see them...

At least I didn't vote.

How about fully functional Memory Protection for a feature?

Then later said..

Yeah, a *working full* MP would be a great feature. But I don't see
that coming. Current "MP" in OS4 is not better than existing other
solutions. Mind you there are tools and MOS catches many dead apps and
disposes them carefully.

The GrimReaper has nothing I do not have right now AFAIK. If it
reaches OS X task manager's abilities but with no significabt speed
loss, well then I will rate OS4 as a serious OS and buy it
instantaneaously right of the shelf!

What if I said I can't talk about a certain MP-enabled kernel currently available to beta testers.

Sounds promising, yes?

Did you forget about this Memory Allocation. I believe Hyperion said it would be in OS4 Final.

This has been known for quite some time. EntilZha has said that OS4 has memory
protection built in but it's disabled because it will break compatibility with current apps.

Just do some searching on the site and you'll probably find some answers directly
from the horses mouth so to speak.

If AmigaOS have Full MP, it will be a very great feature for the future of the OS. not so much as a desktop OS for us, to run our legacy software on. but the Embedded future that seem to be emerging around AmigaOS currently.

for the embedded market, backward compatability with old AmigaOS apps, don't matter to much, as it will proberly be used for special cases setup's. so AmigaOS with full mp, is a rather neat OS for that segment.

Yes I know that its partially implemented, but I got the feeling its not 100% yet. I.E. dont we need a new API for message passing?

Also, I thought they might have got a way around breaking compatibility, as crazy as that sounds. Lets just call that wishful thinking. :)

Don't be ashamed. It happens to others as well. See here:

@jahc

thanks for pointing this out btw..

now i think hyperion got it all :)
they will produce one kernel mp for thoses who want it,
and a non-mp kernel for thoses who want it..
that would be perfect, you could choose upon startup :)

i'm not religious at all, but now i pray :)
i want mp! O_O

Dont get too excited yet. It sounds promising, but I could have interpreted his comments wrong. That, or he might think hes betatesting "x" when hes actually betatesting "y".

I am quite sure that it won't be integrated into OS4 final. We will see it rather in OS4.1 or 4.2 if that is ever going to happen.

@polka.

i didn't check the link, but i guess this is bill f*ck!ng gates showing it's crap98 to everyone,
and it's crashing so everyone can see the mess that it is?
yes it was ridiculous, i hate windoz.
but as terrible as it may sounds amigaos got late all thoses years waiting to someone pickup the flame again.
in the meanwhile, lots of progress were made by other OSes
until hyperion came in to try to save the day.
nowdays windows crash a bit less, and amigaos is a lot more shaky than windoz.
that make me sad.

maybe there's still hopes. hyperion already cleaned it up a lot.
lot more stable than my old 1200 or a4k with os3.9.
still there's somethings left to do in this area.
i think memory management of amigaos is it's only weak point.

I agree. I might even say that Windows XP is rock solid here. I might be doing something wrong, err, right I mean. Now please flame me.
AmigaOS is much more unstable and needs frequent rebooting. Still love it though.

I wouldn't be so sure this "lithium" is beta testing anything at all.
