| Assuming that new hardware comes out for OS4 to run on, how long would it be before OS4 would be available as a final commercial product to go with it?
Just a thought really, I mean if we get a new mobo tomorrow, is OS4 in a posistion to be release quickly with it? Otherwise could we end up with another A1 situation with boards and no OS? |

Yes, I have seen an A1 with update 4 - it's awesome and so snappy!
I can't wait to see the next release with the new memory system and whatever other tricks you may have up your sleeves... |

If I recall correctly, the A1 has got its first pseudo-release of AOS4 after more than one year than it was released and bought by people. People were told to use linux in the meantime. A linux which couldn't even work reliably due to the DMA issues we all know about.
Probably, the OP is afraid that once an hypothetical new HW platform for AOS4 is released, the situation depicted above will present itself again.
But you knew all that, didn't you?
What's the answer to his question anyway? Last edited by falemagn on 10-Jun-2006 at 10:24 AM.

Well, AOS 4 is pretty finished, if they send the gold disk for mastering, you can check past news how long it took to finish the production run of the AmigaOS 4 CDs and do the math by yourself. _________________ Games, programs, reviews |

I think that would be for Rogue to answer...

How did he get in here....shoo little banana before Kicko gets you.
I'm very happy with OS4 too, just a pity that due to current circumstances there aren't more of us. _________________

Indeed it would be for him to confirm, however I do seem to remember a comment that OS4 Pre-4 would have been the final release version had circumstances allowed it. _________________

You misunderstood what he meant I think.
I interpreted it as: What happens when new OS4 hardware (not an AmigaOne) is out.. will it have an OS4 port ready for it or will we have to wait a short while.. if so, how long would that wait be?
I think the bold part was what hes most interested in.
EDIT: I'm re-reading his post and now I'm not sure if what I wrote above is correct. Oh well. :)

Yes. So what is going on we all wonder? If new boards are being built/designed (which they seem to be) then why isn't AInc. or Hyperion letting us know anything official? No building of interest or firming up of consumer confidence. There's something funny going on.
20 questions with the mysterious Amiga Inc. would be interesting if they would answer them._________________ Sam |

What part AMiga Inc. is to play when OS 4 final is out, i have no idea if they have a part at all, Hyperion Makes the OS, its up to the HW developers to announce anything regarding their HW._________________

Why such a hostile answer? all he was asking was how long it would take for OS4 to be released in final or be avaliable in some form or antoher for this new board. There are bunch of unhappy people who cannot use OS4 right now, including myself. |

For the most part yes but my joystick won't work without constantly re-saving the prefs... See Joystick troubles. |

Good context. This is rather intersting as NOBODY has answered the question if ANYONE can get a license for "OS4" to run on their board (which are all vapour ATM). This is the question people are dodging as i'm afraid its not a good answer. And before the trolls and fanatics come in, please back up your claims..

| to make the question simple..... when will AOS4 be available as a final commercial product so everyone can buy it..... the few that have it today dont cuunt.... and it is not released as a final product for the masses... thats pretty much the BIG question... so dont spin it!!!
