I just posted this info in another thread, but I think it deserves its own thread. Adam from ACK Software Controls often gives us the inside word on his projects on IRC, but this information doesnt seem to make it to the outside world. So I'm giving a brief update for those who dont know anything about it.

ACK Software Controls is working on an ATX formfactor board called the PowerVixxenTL (not to be confused with the PowerVixxenLT which is the a1200 expansion). It will come with a 1.7GHz 7448 for $1000-1200 usd, or with a 1GHz 750GL for $650 usd. Theres two versions of this board. Theres the stripper version, which has no onboard PATA/SATA/USB. That functionality is added with a combo card. The stripper board has a 66MHz PCI slot especially for this card. The newer design has a south bridge which will give onboard PATA/SATA/USB, but I dont think this design is quite ready yet. IIRC both boards will have PCI-Express (1x lane in the stripper board I believe, and possibly more for the PVTL with southbridge). The stripper board is more or less ready, but with some small technical problems. Both boards have 2x gigabit ethernet, and are based on the Tundra Tsi 109 northbridge.

More information from an old IRC log (August 2006):
[15:48:28] {jahc} what functionality was the soutbridge going to provide again? PATA+SATA+USB+PCI-express?
[15:51:35] {ack} PATA / SATA / USB / AC97 / PCI and it's connected to Host bridge using PCI Express 4x (+bridge on Tsi109)

The biggest show stopper at the moment is the OS4 license. ACK badly wants to show his hardware running at Amiwest.

@jahc

Did he have any details about the OS4 license process he's up against? Technical or monetary hurdles? Does he need a license to show a demo if he owns a legal copy of OS4?

No doubt he can't sell a board with a copy of OS4, but who can tell us the legal details of showing a board is capable of running OS4?

@Plaz

Adam showed up in irc for about 5 min tonight & I asked him about his Amiwest showing. He said he was in negotiations to get a license for the PV LT. I asked him if he was going to be at the show & this was his answer.

Quote:
"The CPUs and the PV LT will be there for sure.
If the licensing for the PV TL is all ironed out, it will be there as well."

Not a lot of info, but something.

Note: the word "it" in italic is a typo in my opinion & should be "I" based on the first line of the quote, Adam has stated a desire to attend Amiwest

[16:28:41] {ackcontrols} Not yet.
[16:30:25] {Valiant_laptop} Hello, Adam. Any timeframe when I might be able to order a 1.7Ghz CPU
module from my dealer Softhut.com?
[16:30:46] {sundown} ackcontrols: ok, I know there are ppl coming just to see you're goods
[16:31:58] {sundown} ackcontrols: show fever
[16:32:38] {ackcontrols} The CPUs and the PV LT will be there for sure.
[16:33:29] {sundown} we want you there as well
[16:33:57] {ackcontrols} If the licensing for the PV TL is all ironed out, it will be there as well.
[16:34:23] {Valiant_laptop} sundown: I told you I'd be seeing a PV there!!!
[16:34:30] {ackcontrols} gotta run

@sundown

Note that in that (last) quote, he said "IT will be there as well, not "I will be there as well".

Hopefully he ment the PV TL with "it will be there" not that he's only going to show the license...

It was an assumption I made at the time. I should have made a note to that effect, but jahc posted the text at the same time so I left it alone. If you read the first line, the third line appears to be a typo (it=I).

Adam has said if certain things happened, he would like to come to the show, though he is uncommitted at this time, but we keep trying.

I'll edit my post & add a note.

@jahc
Really, Adam's complete lack of PR is letting users forget the PowerVixxen, although that may be for the best if it is going to become another BoXeR: You said "The newer design has a south bridge" - does that mean he is still re-designing major stuff? And I guess he hasn't even got any real OS running on it yet? That would put him on about the same level as Troika, which *may* be way behind Samantha.

Please understand that Valiant's remark to me was because of a previous convo we had together before Adam showed up.

Bottom line is That Adam is working to get a license for the PV TL. He may or may not attend Amiwest next month, but he has said he plans to have his h/w on display with a rep of his choosing. The new cpu modules don't need a license & he has said he plans on selling those at the show along with the PV TL if he gets the license. A nice plan, but Amiwest is 4 weeks away & plans have a way of changing.

It's always risky to try & write what another person has said & intends to do.

How about he ship the products and we can take as many photos as we want and post them all over the place. My preference.

Ok, here you go:

Go, Adam go!!!1!

PowerVixxen TL roxxorz! I will buy one, even if it costs $1500, becauz it's da fastest Amiga of all times!
Powervixxen has great potensial of bringing back Amiga as the leisure of computing number one!!!1! I am only speaking teh truth and you know it. Windows will quickly die when Powervixxen appears on the market and everybody will use Amiga due to the potensial of screendragging and Zami-themes
