So have I, I also developed on it, and have extensive experience from earlier PPCs and approximately the speed of the PS3s 3.2Ghz In-Order Cell is about equivalent to a 1.6Ghz single core G5. Which in turn is about (actually a bit slower on some code) equivalent in everyday usage to a slightly slower G4 (1.42Ghz is probably a pretty good match).
And yes the PS3 is RAM crippled, just like the PPC is servely wingclipped on the Cell. The Cell power is in the SPUs.
---
Also, the Cell is not dual core. it uses a technique called Hyperthreading (basically a duplicate set of registers inside the PPC) to reuse some wasted cycles. And the Cell PPE wastes alot since it's inorder...
---
Well IBM calls it Simultaneous Multi-Threading, but it's essentially the same thing with a different name. Hyperthreading is Intels name for it.
