Interesting article released today by Michael Lankton:

http://www.connectedinternet.co.uk/2009/08/26/amiga-state-of-the-union-august-2009

It seems that Michael concurrently started a thread on amiga.org as well:

On the outside looking in

Sorry, but I don't find that interesting at all. It certainly isn't saying anything new, just regurgitating the same old broken record that can be read on many a forum.

Is it fair to slap someone who's late to the party? I'll agree that most of us are tired of hearing the same old crap, but we need to feed potential new users information (links) to help answer their questions. Preferably amigans links to avoid the flames.

Actually I think 'articles' like this are great. Lots of x-Amigans haven't been following things in recent years so they would be interested in the current state of play.

It's always good to see things from people on the outside. Unlike most/all of you guys, I have only been into the Amiga thing for the past year so I wasn't around during all those 'bad times' and because of that I probably have a different perspective on where things are now.

I do have a good feeling about the future though, I really think things are starting to improve for this community

Nothing new content wise to regulars on Amiga forums but perhaps interesting to ex Amigans.
If it brings a few back into the fold as I suspect it may do, then it was a worthwhile exercise.

I guess it was the author that prompted my use of the word "interesting",
assuming this is he...

Huh, that Michael Lankton seems like something of a professional journalist, and generally interesting guy.

Written for amongst others http://aventhusiast.com/ .
I'd say this guys opinion matters, say we had a sam440 sized board with grunt enough to do hd playback etc, os4 could have a shot there, and it looks nice too. And in cars .

Written some nice articles here too.

Sane and with interests outside of the Amiga world.
Lets drive him away before he makes us all look bad.

Maybe someone should loan him a SAM with OS 4.1 so he can do a review.

Not a bad idea. Max did that with Thomas Holwerda of OSNews.
But I'd write the author 1st to gauge that interest.

Every little bit helps. Snow Leopard is number #1 on Amazon's software charts. That helps the message of alternative operating systems besides Win get heard.

http://aladdin4d.blogspot.com/2009/08/snow-leopard-number-1-on-amazoncom.html

If the author is interested in a review unit someone should get him one ASAP. If he is well respected so much the better.

Why are you all so interested in getting OS4.1 reviewed, when its still in beta??? - and when we all know changes have been made to the gui, which we'll see when it's released as official 4.1

Wait with the reviews.....the last one by thom holwerda was not selling more amigas thats for sure!. The dude didn't even get the window working methods of AOS right, and argued how annoying they were, when in fact it's the one thing i miss the most when sitting here on a windows machine with its STUPID way of window handling....arghh

Off course he is right about the price a newcomer to OS 4 has to pay to get started with Amiga OS 4. I don't think the Hyperion management should ignore articles like this because with maybe 100 more Sams sold the current user base that's willing to pay those high prices will be pretty much covered.

Maybe i'm wrong, and probably i will start a flamewar with this. I don't really see any reason why the 3 (AOS, MOS and AROS) join their force together. It's only a point of view, tho.

I agree with you. It's not possible for all three to do so because of licensing issues.

@AmigaBlitter

I can't see it happening as all three parties have different ideas of how to progress.
I can see the advantages to unification though.
