The first video of last weekend's AmiWest Show has been posted. In the video Steven Solie, Amiga OS 4.x beta tester and representing Hyperion, the company who produces the OS, announces that the lawsuits between Hyperion and Amiga, Inc. have been settled. Steve then goes on to field questions from the audience.

To see the video, go to

Stay tuned for more AmiWest videos,

From the ssolie video:
Quote:
There wasn't a talk about new Amigas. I don't remeber any anouncement about new Amigas. There was an anouncement of the... ambitious project.

- Ha!

- But there were no details about what that means (laughs).
- Until now (lulz).
- Until now (more lulz).

If in the end "The most ambitious project" it's gonna be new hardware... My bet is on a really competitive (by mainstream standards) PPC chip coupled with a good GPU. Cell BE + AMD/ATI perhaps? That would be interesting.

I can't play it on my linuxbox either, and that has one of those magic x86 processors.

@fryguy

Well, i'm very happy that my aone board can take pci card, remember that my picasso IV cost me 500$ cdn for a card that could do half as a window card of the same price. So i don't mind to pay a little more for a board that can run Amiga os just for the pleasure of not using microsoft/intel products.

@kas1e
It starts playing immediately for me.

BTW, if you want to download it to disk directly, use this link:
http://blip.tv/file/get/RobertBernardo-AmiWestShow2009SolieAndHyperion685.wmv
(On Windows this still trys to play it, so I used IBrowse to download it!)

Yes. And I think it is safe to asume that AmigaOS will continue to be PPC for many years to come. Not that I know the details, but I supect that even if Hyperion wanted to move to x86, that would cost them a lot of money and time. Legally speaking, they can do it now. Economically speaking, it's perhaps unfeasable. I'd be VERY surprised if they had a parallel x86 version of AmigaOS, hidden in a server, awaiting for the legal clouds to disipate. Because it's a very unlikely scenario, their next hardware solution must be PPC-based. That's my opinion.

My view of it is that the important doubts about upcoming versions of AmigaOS should be summed up in two key questions:

- What will be included in the next hardware solution in order to be competitive and atractive, taking into account the requirement (constraint, if you will) that it must be PPC based?

- What software features will be included in the next AmigaOS versions to be competitive and atractive for developers, taking into account that those are the people who will create the exclusive applications that will atract more users?

Those are, to me, the two only questions that matter.

“This new design offers the Amiga user a new choice in hardware. Amiga believes that this new system will address the needs of the Amiga user today and into the near future.”, said Bill McEwen of Amiga, Inc.

I have no idea what your post is meant to convey here. The prior post in this thread (ambitious project) refers to a project actually underway.
The project(s) YOU refer to in your link were cancelled long ago.
Also the relationship between the two companies mentioned in the press releases was dissolved.

This video should be released in non-hd normal resolution so amiga users can watch it ;) I watched it with mplayer on amigaone. Sound was ok but the video was slow. My xbox couldnt show it. To slow. My ps3 didnt support the codec.

At least i could hear what they talk ;) Thanks

The next AmiWest Show 2009 video has been posted! In this video, Paul Sadlik, OS 4.x beta tester, gives a detailed explanation of the new/improved features on the new Amiga OS 4.1.1 which is planned to be released by year's end. Go to

http://blip.tv/file/2756479

Sorry for the variable sound quality. Next time I'll monitor the sound more carefully with a good set of headphones (or hire a sound man... yeah, right).

Darn noisy environment,

I hope you don't mind but I've converted your files to a much smaller downloadable Mpeg4 files and will soon be available via IntuitionBase.com

They will be located in the multimedia section of the site.

I am currently uploading them so they may take an hour or so to appear, I have a slow upload speed from here.

Hope you guys can play them back on OS4, MOS, AROS whatever
