Just wondering. On December 12th DiscreetFX announced a great "Chrismas giveaway"... saying that winners would be announced on New Years Day. Did I miss something or were they never announced? Or did he mean New Years Day 2011?

Here's the full story:

http://amigaworld.net/modules/news/article.php?storyid=5201

Please clarify someone if this was a real giveaway or just vaporware. Thanx.

@qwertz

Sometimes, simply asking the question will suffice.

Throwing around veiled accusations of dishonesty does not help to keep amigaworld.com a pleasant place to visit.

My experiences of DiscreetFX are of a passionate and trust worthy Amigan...

@qwertz

I have no idea, a quick search did'nt reveal anything, if you want to know, why don't you ask DiscreetFX? tell us what you find.

Still no word from DiscreetFX... I mean, they promised to give away almost 30 prizes. Winning chances would've been pretty high but as there seems to be no one in here who has actually won something or even heard something about any winners... well, you get the conclusion. So all people who got angry at me for criticizing DFX in the past, think twice next time because I probably have just discovered another hoax.

@qwertz

What concerns me is, at only 22 posts, and a relatively new user(perhaps Im wrong) I am more inclined to await for an answer from discreet fx then straight away believing everything I hear(or read).

Cheers

And what about the winner of the "Give Amy her face" contest? Was that ever announced?

@Gebrochen

and combine that with the fact that of qwertz's 22 posts probably 21 have been made to "cause trouble" for DiscreetFX you quickly relaise that qwertz has a hidden agenda, they may or may not have a genuine greevance, but this style of aproach is better suited to sites relating to bunnies IMHO.

@broadblues

Even the guys alias, Qwertz, he clearly doesnt know how to spell the watch brand, heheheh.

quartz is what it should have been I geuss.

@Qwertz :

Maybe your right, but in this instance, when someone of statue like broadblues comes along and writes what he writes, well, the chances and odds are slimming down further in discreet fx favour at the moment.

That's absolutely right, man. After the Amizilla bounty cancellation which was extremely odd and very suspicious, I decided to keep an eye on that company because we Amiga users have been victims of so many companies over the last decade. So do you have a problem with that? Is it wrong to ask about the status of a seemingly very generous contest that was hugely advertised here? In December they said that winners would be announced on New Year's Day and prizes given out on or before January 31st. Both obviously didn't happen. There's not even a word about this contest left on the DFX web page. It is as if there never was such a contest. If you ask me, this smells.

And "Quartz" is not even a watch brand.

@Gebrochen

what concerns me, is why do you think the number of someone's posts should determine if he's right or not.

How about 1 post then, huh?

@broadblues

about qwertz "causing trouble" - don't you think that promising and not keeping word is "asking for trouble?" I don't think DFX did that on purpose, maybe they have some unexpected financial problems, who knows? Maybe your (and Gebrohen's) answer should give qwertz some possible explanations, instead of bashing him, using his post count instead of real arguments?

@recedent
I have to agree, with the above comment by recedent, I also have to point out this is not the first time for DicreetFX to do something like this, below:-

FX You Contest From DiscreetFX
http://amigaworld.net/modules/news/article.php?storyid=5140

Listen to Amiga Round Table and get a chance to win !
http://amigaworld.net/modules/news/article.php?storyid=5078

Win a Copy of Aladdin 4D!
http://amigaworld.net/modules/news/article.php?storyid=4803

None of the competition winner where ever announced for the above, now was that due to the lack of interest, lack of money, or other issue I don't know.

There even the Amiga Seeding the Success Campaign which promised $100 each month to deserving Amiga users/projects, but I believe it was only given out a few times.

Now I don't want to criticise a company that generally does seem to want to offer help in the Amiga world and is willing to put money into the Amiga world, lets face we need all the help we can.

BUT

They should be a bit more careful with the projects and ideas they come up with and follow them through if they really want to be seen as a genius company, specially in the Amiga world, where the community have been messed around with enough. The Netscape bounty thing wasn't handled as best as it should of been and there are a few unanswered questions but I think they tried to fix the whole situation, which is more than most company's would do. However again soon after this they started up another bounty UAE-OSX Ultimate run by them http://www.discreetfx.com/UAE-OSX.html which is not a good sign that they learned from there mistakes.

All I want to say if they really want to help out the Amiga community, hire some programmers and get them porting the most needed features, they might then be able to claim some of the bounty's of other sites them self at the same time helping out the Amiga scene.

Ps: I have over a hundred posts, am I the same?

When you say no word do you mean you contacted them and they did not reply?

Maybe something was posted about it on Amiga.org? Did you check there?

@qwertz

I am announcing that I did not win anything (yet) from any DiscreetFX contest ever.

Secret hint: If I were to win an OS4.1 capable machine that would really help my Amiga software development.

Had a quick look at Amiga.org and found this..

"As this year and decade draws to a close DiscreetFX and Amiga.org wants to wish a Happy New Year to all our customers, Amiga OS 4.x, MorphOS, AROS and Classic Amiga fans. Please have a safe and Happy New Year and we look forward to fun times coming in the decade ahead. Don't forget Contest Winners for 2009 will be announced very soon and awarded before January 31st, 2010.
Best Wishes to All
DiscreetFX Team"
