Hi

I have to be a bit delicate here as this involves a major incident which happened here in the UK yesterday where 12 people were murdered, so firstly I don't want to upset anybody.

Yesterday in Cumbria, in North England, an individual went on a rampage through a number of towns and shot 12 people dead, while injurying another 11 seriously. I am all sure we all hope they make a full and lasting recovery.

You might wonder what relevance this has to the Amiga.

Well, one of the eye witnesses was a Barrie Moss. What I've suddenly realised is that this might well be Barrie (Fleecy) Moss of Amiga fame, which the last I knew was living in Cumbria.

I've pasted a link below to a BBC interview he undertook yesterday (although he has also been on the BBC today).

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/10220732.stm

I can't quite remember what he looked like in his Amiga days, but do people know if this is the actual Fleecy Moss?

Thanks

Zetec-S

Update:

Just googled some pictures of Fleecy in his Amiga days and it is definitely him!

Horrible, horrible story.

I met Fleecy once in Cologne and he was really nice. Is he still involved with Amiga, Inc?

The first time I talked to him was also in Cologne during Amiga2001, the event at which Hyperion and Amiga announced their plans for AmigaOS4.

Later I met him again in Bath, UK when I did coverage of one of the 'OS4 on Tour' events for AmigaWorld.net. Of course I myself with some help of other (former) AW staff did conduct about 28 amigaworld member Q&A sessions with him (of course with input from the OS4 development team).

It's a small world and weird things happen.

@Zetec-S

I thought that too - I didn't realise it actually WAS Fleecy. Crikey - he only lives a few miles from me.

I do hope he's alright - it sounds like he's lucky to be alive. Something like that must really shake you up.

How horrible. a lot of people are not happy. It's not right.

I too have spoken with Fleecy Moss and agree, he is a very nice person.

OMG ! Yes, that's fleecy!, he's changed a bit since I last saw him (Dec 13 2003 at Bath)

Fleecy introducing OS4 at Bath

I would say it's definately him, the face may have changed, a bit less hair, but I recognised the voice.

Fleecy famous for a few mins on the BBC, all for the WRONG reasons, would have been good to have seen him under better circumstances

That looks like Alan Redhouse from Eyetech to me! Or am I supposed to view the video?

@BigD

The Bath Video Teaser is what you are after, which is at the top of the page, not the Alan Redhouse interview:

Click on the video links below THIS picture (MPEG, WMV or REALPLAYER Formats)

Oh dear, the Amiga seems to be a jinx for some!

We had Escom going bankrupt when they owned it, then Phase 5, while Gateway sacked Bill and made Jim Collas resign, both of whom were doing quite well at the time.

I'm a little surprised that Fleecy's real name is Barrie; I remember, many years ago, Amiga Format asking him "Why is your name Fleecy?" he said "My real name is worse." Is Barrie really that embarrassing?

Damn, if any ex-Amiga bod deserved that, it was Medhi Ali!

Bloody hell!

I saw this guy on TV last night and didn't put two and two together! I was up that way last night too and saw the effect it had on the local news!

Sad times, and poor Fleecy too for having to go through that!

Terrible events in Cumbria. I remember seeing Fleecy at one of the Amiga shows here in the UK, definitely him.

It seems Fleecy is giving lots of accounts.

And I second that... what a horrid thing to have to witness.

Sounds like we've had our own Washington sniper, someone who's been taking the GTA games too seriously.

It's a little less expected here, as our gun laws are much tighter. Handguns are banned completely.

We had our own Columbine some time ago- the Dunblane. After that all handguns were banned; now it's illegal to carry knives too. And yet, we get this- Cumbria, of all places! I was in Yorkshire two weeks ago!
